Got me a couple of TSB ferro rods coming. Then i might get me a Dragons Breath rod from Aussie and one of Amazon. I saw Paul Kirtley with the a dragons breath and a Strike fire rod. He says they are hard rods. The strike fire i have to get off amazon UK. So i might get a forest Fundamentals one aswell to round things off. Then do a updated comparison video. Proberly x mas time. The TSB does a 6" x 1/2" so i got one and the smaller type with handle. That should make for the most comprehensive comparison ferro rod video on you tube.🤣🤣🤣👍💥💥💥💥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Also loses stability faster since the core is already hollow
@cujomojo3 ай бұрын
It does stay pretty stable. I would normally dig the hole about three inches, so it sits in the ground. The weight of the log is in the centre, as that burns away there is very little weight of wood left for it to fall outward.
@adamb893 ай бұрын
@@cujomojo Don't the tips start to bend in though? That's the first part that always goes for me, it burns away at teh top faster than the bottom so the top starts to cave in while the bottom remains stable/
@anthonyvincent60163 ай бұрын
That's a nice idea. The only issue I can see is that, one of the reasons for the swedish torch is that if you collect your wood in the wild the outside of the log is often damp where as the timber in the middle is usually bone dry, especially when using standing dead wood... Still great idea with the right bit of wood....
@cujomojo3 ай бұрын
@@anthonyvincent6016 The Swedish Torch was designed to burn even freshly cut green timber, still with a high moisture content. The way it burns up the grain dries it out pretty quickly. The log I used was cut from a tree that had been laying for some time, other than splitting it the only other prep needed was to strip the bark from it.

Another quick one, I would usually dig the hole a little deeper. I watched a video from Sigma 3 survival school, he said everyone was doing the Swedish torch wrong. We all have our own methods that work best for us. Easier to just show my method than try to explain it.

Good idea. I tried holding it with the Leatherman pliers, now you mention it there is a file on the Leatherman. If it failed at least it would give me some fine Ferro powder to catch the spark a bit quicker.

True, and I think it’s only going to get worse over here. I really wish I had made the jump to your side of the pond when I had the chance. Loved the ringing of the bell video by the way, no better sound than lead on steel. Hope you had some fun on the 4th, it just doesn’t seem right to me to wish Americans a happy 4th of July. Sounds a bit patronising coming from us, kind of like saying thanks for the bloody nose, lol.

@@HarshmanHills It’s the same here, far to many forget the sacrifices our forefathers made for us to enjoy those freedoms. We are having serious flag issues, I can be arrested and prosecuted for flying my own flag, when the supposed freedom we have will allow others to fly the flag of foreign nations over my country.

That's a steep price for a licence to purchase Hexamine there! Yikes😱 I've got some in my closet right now😁 Good demo of to compare the two!
@cujomojo4 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t have bothered with the license just for the Hexamine, but there is a few other substances on the list that I use regularly. I would have just given up using Hexi altogether, I can count on one hand the places I can buy it from. It’s a shame because Hexamine is such a fantastic fuel, and stores indefinitely.
@agesadventures4 ай бұрын
@@cujomojo I'm glad it stores indefinitely! I have not used it since I bought it about 6 years ago or so. I have an Esbit stove that goes in my hunting pack which is there for emergencies. I've never tested the stove out. I probably should sometime.
