I still don't know what he is scanning for? I have 9 sheep now and never scanned them, whatever that is.

Do you farm on the street. Between sedberge and Kirkby Stephen. I worked around that area of New Biggin on Lune. On the Road to little Asby. The place it's self was Gracetemoor. I believe it's changed its name to Larks meadow. It belongs to a stone Waller.

What sort of tractors are those. They are a bit fansy. I still have my old Massey Ferguson 390T. Bought new in 1997 and still going strong.

Some people do we prefer not to, we use products on the sheep that means fly strike shouldn’t be an issue if applied correctly

That was great again Sam and what a bonus to have had some decent weather for lambing too, much easier to have some lambing outside naturally. Coincidently have just moved our old cast iron bath that has served as a water trough since 1989, and yes it needed a good swilling out too.

Another great week of lambing. Keep them coming. Love your calm demeanour around sheep. Sign of a true professional.

I've a feeling the only time you're ewes see the mountains is in the distance from green fields + cake .all you're gimmer ewe with double lambs???

All our sheep go onto fell, they winter out there from December to April then if they’ve single lambs they go on until clipping and spaining where all the sheep go onto the fell apart from ones we’re selling in the October sales 👍🏻
@TheHerdyMan2 жыл бұрын
Hoggs winter down south but when they come back there straight onto fell, so in theory every sheep on the farm goes onto the fell, we breed them to do there lambs well

One way to keep the control on the wind is to mount a little flag on the tractor, that way you know the direction of the wind
@cloudmaker2 жыл бұрын
Eh up Sam what happened there lad at 6.18-6.19 Did you have to edit out a bit of bad language as you had started spreading with the wind then next second all the back window was clarted up with muck. My first muck spreading job at the farm where I was working he was very keen on always spreading with the wind to keep his tractors nice and clean. Nice pair of Leylands, 270 and 272 synchro since you ask, well it was the mid 1970's but it's a job that for normal sized family farms has not changed. As for the fertiliser price it's absolutely shocking but here we never used the stuff as all our land is permanent grass, with just muck from bedding out the sheds spread and that's it. Grass is full of clover and wild flowers. Hope you washed that muck of when you got back. Fabulous shots of the muck spreading, really enjoyed that. All the best Sam.

I usually have to driver like hell to get a good spread pattern from horse muck otherwise the rotor spreader seems to dump it all out as quick as it can 🤦♂️

Hey Sam good job you were all wrapped up warm for this job! I don't know at what height you are up there but here we are about 1100 ft and we found that too many twins can simply lead to a much bigger attrition rate, so although all twins would be fantastic it just was not practical, or economical. I think, as you say, that anything around your 140% mark would be about as high as you would want to go, unless of course you could offer them all luxury indoor accommodation!
