Funny, I JUST rode "Black Jack" a few weeks ago for the first time. You guys were doing some pretty wicked shit on those bikes 8 years ago. Well done!! Much harder than it looks on video. Black Jack isn't in the shape it used to be in either, A LOT of this stuff is all chewed up now days. You and your crew still riding?

If you are renting canoes. Try the 20ft Minnesota 3 next time. A little heavier but it is fast. And more room for packs. And the center seat makes it nice for soloing. Start contacting outfitters in mid August to see what they are selling at the end of the year. Our minn 3 is one of the best purchases I have made. Owned it 12 years and could sell it for what we purchased

With crankbaits. Grind down the barbs. Makes for easy release of fish and fingers

Late May early June the smallies spawn right next to shore. Our preferred lure is Rebel teeny pop -r topwater lure. Cast it, let it sit, twitch it. If the water is stained dark you will never see their nest. There are about a dozen ways a bass can hit topwater

Two people on one boat pass up two fine campsites to take the first group site you see. Good thing it wasn't so busy up there and you can get away with that! Ha ha great trip! That Wenonah looks great!

Been up there 8-10 times myself, always as a group. The solo is on my bucket list, but I always have at least one or two friends or relatives that I enjoy paddling/camping with. So the solo still eludes me. Best trip has been Moose lake on the Ely side over to the Gunflint Trail side and back. (asphalt to asphalt) Great video though. Thanks for sharing!

How do you come about finding those campsite in the bwca? Are they mapped out or do you have to find them?
@DrDarwinian3 жыл бұрын
They are Mapped out sites. You don’t reserve them - they’re first come first serve. Most all bwca maps gave them listed
@OfftheCuff_Series3 жыл бұрын
Hey Casey, this is a great video. Just watched the whole thing. We're actually making a BWCA video ourselves... currently editing. I'm wondering if we could use the shot of you catching the walleye from shore? We will happily credit you! Thanks

Cool trip! Love bwcaw solos! In my opinion, northern are better eating, and far more fun to catch than walleye. Though harder to fillet properly.

Nice video! Got me excited for my trip in August! Quick question for you, I have those same rod holders and I was wondering how well they work in the canoe and if they damaged the sides at all? I do a lot of trolling with deep-diving crankbaits and thought they'd be worth bringing this year, but we're renting and I don't want to damage their canoes! Thanks in advance!
@DrDarwinian4 жыл бұрын
Definitely good question, I was worried about it as well especially with Kevlar canoes. It took some modification where you can position the clamp on the metal supports and not the Kevlar. One point I had it mounted vertically on the cross bar but it would slip off occasionally. I was thinking of bringing some rubber from an inner tube to drape over the sides and between the clamps next year, it may distribute some of the pressure or reduce the slipping. But if there are better solutions I’m all ears. Definitely worth bringing though!

Perfect editing. Just enough footage of the moments without the endless waiting. Bummed that channel is so easy to Frazier. Wanted to stay on Frazier but got caught in huge rainstorm and our last canoe went down the shore to find came back to say couldn't find it! What!!? So group decision to head south on Thomas and stay for three days. Found the walleyes the important criteria. Excellent trip, beautiful typical weather. Wished I had been tagging along. Other somber event while there had to help find a person with satellite phone to call in a float plane with ranger and sheriff. A twenty something son lost his father to some sort of internal bleeding and died. It was a reunion for the two of them after numerous years and near the end of a 8 day loop trip. Having to be flown out with such sad memories. Hope the son has found peace and maybe has been able to relive some good memories and made more trips..

A little constructive criticism.... the music. The musical score is meant to enhance the story, not distract from it; didn’t match, was way too loud, and was very annoying. Absent the music, you did a great job of filming and narrating. I would watch another video.

Thanks! yeah I kept turning the music down while I edited it but not enough I guess. Thanks for watching.
