so if you have over 10 square feet of mold and cannot afford a professional service then you should just do nothing?
@themoldinsider
@themoldinsider 29 күн бұрын
That was not the intent. Leaving the mold and allowing it to grow and get worse isn’t the best course of action. The 10 sqft rule from the EPA is a guideline that triggers you to be educated about mold removal methods and using proper safety equipment.

Mold is in master closet accessible through bathroom. No windows. Think it started after carpet was cleaned and the cleaner left the carpet too wet. So I can't vent that room or open any windows. Any tips?
@themoldinsider
@themoldinsider 29 күн бұрын
You could look into using a dehumidifier to help with the dry out process. Ultimately, if the company that cleaned the carpet left it too wet , they are responsible. they should have made sure the majority of the water was extracted. Additionally informed you about steps to take to help the drying process.

Helpful. Thank you! One suggestion: in future videos, I would warn people not to use bleach when you talk about cleaning it with detergent. Using bleach to kill mold is the most common myth I have heard over the years and I think it’s important to dispel it at every opportunity.

If mold I. Ducts, don’t you run risk of spreading mold while cleaning
@themoldinsider
@themoldinsider Жыл бұрын
That is possible if the growth in inside the duct work. Recall this video only deals with removing mold growth from the actual diffuser/vent. If your ducts are contaminated with growth, then you would need to have a certified vendor assess the HVAC ducts and present a remediation plan to clean the ducts following NADCA standards.

Can the actual u it be cleaned by a pro to remove mold or do you need to replace?
@themoldinsider
@themoldinsider Жыл бұрын
Is most cases the ducts can be cleaned by a certified remediation contractor. However, if the ducts/ lining is falling apart or there is any type of rodent infestation, removal is always highly recommended.

Is it safe to remain in the house when drywall affected by mold is removed?
@themoldinsider
@themoldinsider 11 ай бұрын
If its a small area it should not be an issue. However, larger areas would typically need to be placed under containment with negative pressure during remediation work. Therefore, the contractor may recommend not being in the home while the remediation is in progress. It a case by case type of situation.

Great video, especially the safety steps that many folks never talk about. Mold is highly toxic and hard to rid from the body. We should never breathe it in, rub the facial areas like the eyes, nose, mouth, ears, etc... try to always remember to wear gloves, because mold under the fingernails isn’t good either. Feeding yourself or your children later poses a risk or passing contaminated mold onto food, beverage caps, etc... mold is no joke. When in doubt call a company. Safety is paramount.

I tried this on the grout in my shower where the floor butts up to the walls. I used a stiff brush with peroxide in a glass measuring cup. The second time I sprayed it on and scrubbed it with a rough sponge designed for showers. I'd say the black spots have faded at least 50%, but the grout came off a bit in the process. I think I need a tile guy to just redo the grout and seal it around the bottom of my shower. Maybe do a test spot before a large area to ensure your grout doesn't get damaged (mine already had a couple wear spots on a 6-year old custom shower). I'm so tired of looking at the black splotches when I clean, but luckily I can't see well when I shower since my contacts aren't in yet.

Nope. Mold visible on exterior wall could also mean something inside the wall causing the mold. Just cleaning exterior mold can reoccur without treating what's causing it on the inside. Awful video!!!!

Thanks for your comment. Good point. I agree that there may be growth inside the wall which is addressed in another video on the channel. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWq5hnWppLKHoLc. However; the video description mentions removing small amounts of mold from the surface when it is not damaged or otherwise degraded. Not removing mold from a water damaged wall or in cases like that.

Thankyou for the video. I want to ask that there is a mould growth on one of the wall at my newly constructed house. The reason could be poor ventilation as its winter here so mostly we close all doors n windows which causes an increase in humidity. I m gonna clean it by ur method but how to prevent it in future. This house is just 4 months old
@themoldinsider
@themoldinsider 2 жыл бұрын
Good morning, thank you for your comment. It could be number of things. Generally if the Relative humidity level is over 60% that can promote mold growth. If you have no leaks and the moisture is attributed to high humidity levels, it could be that your HVAC system needs to be looked at. Sometimes if the unit short cycles (more common in warmer months), it doesn't run long enough to remove the excess humidity from the home. This is just an assumption on my part. I would check the humidity levels to see what they are and possibly have the air handling system checked. its a new home so it should still be under warranty. Keep in mind cooking, showering using the dryers without proper venting can also increase the humidity levels in your home. Hope this helps

I’m from Maryland and we have to create a negative pressure zone which would mean sealing all entry points into the Area we’re working having a air scrubber installed and tube it outside. Once this is established we start scrubbing/disinfecting and use a HEPA vacuum to remove loose debris then hook a high powered sprayer up to get in any nooks and crannies that cannot be reached . After a day we come back to re-vacuum the entire area then apply a fungicide paint to ensure treatment and for future protection
