Municipality of Verano Brianza
The origins of Verano Brianza date back to the time of the expansion of the Celts in Europe. It is likely to believe in the presence of Celtic people in the current territory of Verona, who would have become Romanized following the military conquest of Lombardy in 222 BC. In fact, the Romans started a slow process of assimilation of the indigenous peoples, which took place first in 89 BC. - with the recognition of Latin citizenship (lex Pompeia de Transpadanis) -, therefore in 42 BC, when Cisalpine Gaul became part of Roman Italy. The extension of the rights was accompanied by works to rationalize the exploitation of the territory, with probable centuriation activities (real "regulatory plans", typical of the pragmatic mentality of the Romans). The foundation of Verianum castrum, a military camp located near the road junction that connected the municipium of Milan to Como and Lecco, dates back to the age of the principality of Augustus....
