I enjoy your tomcat videos. For some reason, mine just fly and lose track of the aircraft for no reason. Especially fighting against the AI, it’s really dumb on how they play BVR and I feel like my missiles ares powerless. Also, should I carry sparrows with me as well, or do you like to go all out on Phoenix?

Also, Jester for me has been pretty complicated, as to what setting to set the Countermeasures, the radar, etc etc. And I’m not sure if this is a bug, but Jester is see through on the Menu, like I don’t see him at all for some reason.

F14 pilot here...great video, I just wanted to add my 2 cents... I use the quest 3 and when I pull up the jester menu it allows me to select options by moving my head. Very convenient. Get a vr. Bind all of your jester commands to your hotas(especially the jester pull up button as its easier to push a button on your hotas then fumbling around trying to find the A button your keyboard while in a fight). I do this by assigning each command I need like : HSD toggle, Lock nearest enemy target, TID range, Toggle between TWS and RWS, Autopilot & Heading(lock) Toggle etc - I just use the keyboard to add modifiers like left ALT + hotas button etc. It makes controlling jester a hell of lot easier.

When facing Ai I can dodge 70-80% of missiles. Aim120c's PvP I get hit by 99% of them. Flying the notch, chaff doesn't make much difference. Firing phoenix missiles active right off the rail doesn't seem to bother ppl either. The only thing that helps is dive to the trees and run. Obviously can't play the game always on the run. Fuel burns quickly. The aim54c is currently a terribly ineffective model of the real missile.
@shinysdcs12122 ай бұрын
I have to disagree with you there, I find the Aim-54C quite effective. Aim-120s are not difficult to dodge, just defend early and take them to the ground.

I'm fond of a tactic I've found with the AIM-7 when against two targets, the first missile I fire is purely to get one of them to break, and once I see they do, I give it a count of about 5-10 seconds to make sure they're pretty much abeam of me, and are occupied with that missile, which is never going to hit them, I then break lock and quickly lock up the other bandit, and fire on them for a kill shot, and as soon as they're dead I quickly go back after the other one with a third AIM-7 to kill them. It "wastes" one missile that I have no intention of getting a kill with, because I only ever hold the lock long enough to keep them busy, but not long enough to let the other bandit close enough to be getting a shot off before they have a missile heading to them. But so far, this tactic has worked every time against the AI armed with similar weapons.

Some tips from me: There is very nice RIO controls mod for F14. IC friendly. It gives you RIO controls like MLC, hooking stuff, ignore tracks, chose flares/chaff on DLC button... all from pilot seat. Very nice. Also it seem you could fire from higher alt. i try to fire from min 40k feet, F14B easily goes there on mil with 4 54s, and performance difference on long rang 54s is massive. Also when bandit is within 20 nm but i dont know where exactly, then i switch to RWS, it has more scan volume and more importantly more bars. Definitely much better than looking through the straw of PAL

Very helpful video. If you ever run into an encounter with JF17 pvp or pve as an ace post a video on that. The jammer and SD10 can be a big pain to deal with. If you are just out of range for a PAL lock can you do a STT lock with the ACM cover up at say 17 miles or would you keep the cover down for that. Assuming you will break that lock defending hard

For the long range shot get down coaltitude jump into the backseat and turn of mlc-filter. Or get slightly below him to prevent the nodge.

If you are facing airframes capable of using 120s you need to launch the 54 at best parameters. 44k feet at m1.5. If I was not already there prior to 100nm from them I would level out at 30k and push my speed (m1.3 gives you good results) in even if I had to offset to delay the launch. If the bandit attempts to defend the way he did it would have drilled his butt.
@shinysdcs12125 ай бұрын
In most of my videos I preach a lot about good launch parameters for long shots. 40k is good if possible, but generally I'm satisfied if I'm between 30~35k and about mach1 (but being higher and faster is always a good thing for long range shots). In the situation in this video, the hornet did a good job defending the Aim-54.

Ah, my favorite tanker to refuel from! Until we get an A-6 that is... P.S. i too use a raised view, not only for refueling, but for general flight and aerobatics/BFM/ACM as well. It not only gives a better motion perspective on a flat screen, but it also gives a clear view of the nose, helping you stay coordinated in your turns.
@shinysdcs12125 ай бұрын
Yep, I always raise the view a little so I can see the nose, then for refueling I raise it up all the way

How are people taking the Tomcat to 54,000 feet & staying there? I cant keep it stable at that height without burning a ton of fuel
@alcatraz06432 күн бұрын
35 to 40 000ft is norm then when you fire add 10 degree nose up, that will give phoenix better reach.
@suecobandito89545 ай бұрын
Good video. Couple suggestions: 1. Sweep the wings to "Bomb" 56 deg. position. NATOPS states wings in manual mode and sweep as desired. 2. Lower your seat so you have a clear view of both drogue and probe. Then you can just drive the drogue along the right end of the 30 degree line in A/A to line up. 3. Trim the ball back to center with the probe out to remove side slip. I swapped aileron trim for rudder on my stick.
@ilejovcevski795 ай бұрын
I must disagree on 2. While i do understand it's very DCS meta, at the end of the day it stands against all that is really aviation related. Flying, even precision flying, shouldn't be relegated to pixel counting. It's more about spatial orientation, at least in VFR. And on a flat screen, having a clear view over the nose provides two benefits. Better projection of the motion vector (due to the forced perspective) AND a clear view of your nose and yaw string. The latter is even more authentic then the default snap view that comes with the plane, as IRL you can see the nose from your seat, unless you are really short. The former on the other hand, provides the much needed sense of depth and closure, that flat screen users lack.
@shinysdcs12125 ай бұрын
1. I keep the wings in auto. I used a 35-40 degree when I was fist learning a long time ago, but it doesn't make that much difference and in reality Tomcats refueled with the wings in auto 97% of the time. 2. As I talked about in the video, I prefer raising my seat for the higher viewpoint. I can see better, I have a better feel for the relative motion of my plane and the tanker, and it makes it less tempting to look at the basket. 3. I do trim the rudder to compensate for the probe (I also mentioned that in the video), and I also have my rudder trim bound in place of the aileron trim on my stick. Everyone has there own best methods though, so the important thing is whatever works for you

I kinda disappointed with how Phoenix performs right now. In my experience I barely made a kill with it like it used to. I also noticed this in other PVP servers where Phoenix hardly made a kill for other players. What do you think ?
@shinysdcs12126 ай бұрын
The phoenix generally works great for me. Make sure you are not expecting too much..the aim120 is a newer and more advanced missile and they can be easily dodged and defeated..so of course the phoenix can be defeated too. It just depends on your opponent's SA and if the know the missile is coming and defend early enough. If both pilots know what they are doing then the fight will probably come to a merge.

This videos show very good examples. Keep em coming, they are more than welcome. The examples you have shown here are most of the time head on, but would be interesting to see if you have any examples where the bandits notch and you lose them on radar. Those are the ones that give me the hardest time because at the time the stop notching they are too close and sometimes they fire faster than you.

Zone is altitude..zone 0 is 0 - 5000ft, zone 1 is 5000 - 15000, zone 2 is 15000 - 25000, zone 3 25k - 35k, zone 4 35k - 45k. On the F-14's TID, it is the number on the left side of the aircraft track.

Every time I try a tactic like this, I can't stay hot long enough for the Phoenix to go pit. We usually close much faster than this starting hot and end up ~20 miles and his Aamram gets me before my Phoenix even goes pit. Kind of a head scratcher.

It's one of the many stacking problems that makes the f14 frustrating to use. Jester not holding a lock is another. You can climb in the back lock up a target. Then when jester gets back there he drops the lock. So you go back rip again. Get the target. Again he drops it. ... And now you have bandits on you because you wasted time fighting with jester.

DCS AI is very poor, to the point they artificially buff the hell out of the AI planes so they actually have a chance. Very frustrating
@algroyp3r12 күн бұрын
@@catfunt5583 It's not every AI plane, it is very model specific. Some of them have OK flight models. I don't think they are buffing the Mig to make up for poor AI, I think it is using a simplified flight model that is quite wrong.
