Poems are rapping for lesbians? Fing clown. Why would anyone post this as if it's a positive? These people who believe that their sexuality overrides everything else. What an ignorant fool.

"Oombulgarri" This is the title, referencing a specific place, likely with historical or personal significance. "Tumbleweeds of blue patterned dresses" Imagery that conveys memories or remnants of the town's inhabitants. Blue patterned dresses could represent the typical attire of Aboriginal women or a specific memory. "Drift down empty streets" This indicates abandonment or a lack of life and activity. "Where paddy wagons once patrolled" Paddy wagons (police vehicles for transporting prisoners) symbolize law enforcement or oppression that once was a regular occurrence in this place. "The town is empty now" Direct emphasis on abandonment and desolation. "As empty as the promises that once held it together" The abandonment is compared to broken promises, suggesting betrayal or unfulfilled commitments that might have led to the town's current state. "Even the wind can no longer stir movement" A depiction of stagnation and lifelessness. "At the playground all the equipment is rusted shut" Indicating that even places meant for joy and childhood play are now dilapidated and unusable. "Echoes have laughed a roll like distant thunder, but unlike a storm cannot pass by" There are still remnants of past laughter and happiness, but these memories, unlike passing storms, linger and don't fade away. "Hysterical energy whips and wails, and wails" There's a palpable tension or unrest, an emotional energy that's very present and haunting. "Tumbleweeds form an interwoven frenzy" The tumbleweeds, often associated with desolation, here seem to represent chaos or the tangled nature of history and memories. "A fortress to guard the perimeter of this site" Despite the abandonment, there's still a sense of protection or preservation for what this place represents. "Broken" This single word emphasizes damage, despair, or a fractured history. "Even the creak of the gate is silent" A final note on the absolute silence, indicating the depth of abandonment or the weight of what's been lost.

"Trance an old woman's eyes -> An elderly woman reflects or appears distant in thought. mist over -> Her eyes become teary or clouded with emotion. ghost gums begin to dance -> Trees, specifically the ghost gums (a type of eucalyptus), seem to move, possibly due to her emotional state or the atmosphere. fire light flickers -> The light from a campfire or flame wavers. the night air prepares its exit -> Dawn is approaching as nighttime ends. Hunched in her possum skin cloak -> She's wrapped in traditional Aboriginal attire, indicating her connection to her culture. the dawn breeze chills -> The early morning air is cold. a whisper inside her trance -> She hears or feels a faint call or thought during her deep reflection. the sound of instinct -> She is in tune with her natural instincts or ancestral memories. in her mind, she observes -> In her thoughts or memories, she examines... both the hardness of the trunks -> The firm, unyielding structure of the tree trunks. and the softness of bark -> And the gentle, textured surface of tree bark. and requires neither -> She is at peace and doesn't need to choose between the two sensations. She floats in a pitchery haze -> She is lost in deep thought or memory, perhaps influenced by traditional rituals or substances. among the river of trees -> Surrounded by or moving through a forest. bleach sand burns her skin -> The intense, bright sun heats the sand, causing discomfort on her skin. She enjoys the sensation -> Despite the discomfort, she appreciates or finds meaning in the feeling. Heat is the love of the campfire -> Warmth from the fire represents the comfort and love she feels or recalls. the yellow kiss of the Sun -> The sun's rays are like affectionate kisses, warming and familiar. the passion that flows after hunting and life -> She recalls the intense emotions and vitality after hunting or significant events. before her man died -> These memories are from a time before her partner or loved one passed away. In her trance she observes the hard and the soft of trees -> During her reflective state, she once again contemplates the duality of life, represented by the trees. branches uplift his bark bound body -> The trees seem to support or lift the body or essence of her lost loved one. There is no request more sacred -> There's nothing more profound or meaningful than this memory or connection to her loved one. Heat was a grip with fingers entwined -> Their love was intense and intertwined, like holding hands tightly. the firmness of his torso -> She recalls the physical strength or presence of her loved one. the instrument of his voice -> She remembers the sound or tone of his voice, which affected her deeply. His smile missing -> His comforting smile is absent now. in her empty hand" -> She feels the void of his absence, as if something she used to hold is now gone.

Trance "Trance" by Ali Cobby Eckermann delves into the profound connection of the Aboriginal people with nature and memory, emphasizing the restorative power of the natural world amidst personal loss. The poem starts with the image of an old woman, with her "eyes [that] mist over," which evokes a sense of nostalgia and reminiscence. The dancing "ghost gums" and flickering firelight immerse the reader into the spiritual realm of her memories, indicating her deep connection to the land. This relationship is further emphasized with the line "She floats in a pitchery haze among the river of trees," illustrating her spiritual journey. The contrast between "both the hardness of the trunks and the softness of bark" captures the duality of life - the challenges and the comforts, both of which she accepts without bias. The line "Heat is the love of the campfire, the yellow kiss of the Sun" suggests the warmth of past memories, of love experienced and perhaps lost. This notion of loss becomes evident when she reflects on a man, perhaps a loved one or a partner, emphasizing the absence with the words "His smile missing in her empty hand." This profound sense of longing is palpable, as she reminisces about their intimacy and the void his absence has left. In essence, "Trance" beautifully captures the journey of memory, grief, and the timeless bond the Aboriginal people share with nature. The poem showcases the therapeutic power of nature and memory in healing personal trauma, emphasizing the indivisible connection between an individual's history, the natural world, and the broader Aboriginal heritage. The poem also subtly underscores the significant themes of intergenerational relationships, connection to the country, and the role of memory as a source of solace.

Mohammed, this is such a brave piece and courageously performed. It’s clear you enjoy both the intensity of the content as well as the performance itself and that’s very engaging. On top of the potency of your poem, you’ve also written it with an honest eloquence. Thank you for sharing and mustering the strength to attempt to move a stranger. 😊
