amazing documentary style video you got. I think you should do the similar video for Clear Lake sisters Oregon.(the water is too cold, make sure you have boots, wetsuit, gloves and the hoodies)

I haven’t Google this ship, but the Navy doesn’t abandon ships as wrecks. The Navy will strike a ship off its register as active, then store for disposition by a scrapper. It gladly transfer ownership and title to a scrapper to relieve itself of the cost to remove toxic materials. The scrapper, in turn, cost out the viability of scrap metal income against the environment safety costs. The USS Enterprise will cost about $1 billion to safely dispose of the ship filled with toxic substances and 8 nuclear reactions.

Indeed, i forget if it was around the 60s or 70s the vessal was struck from the registry. I mention somewhere in the video.

Well the enterprise along with all major retired warships get scrapped in Brownsville Texas. The ships are sold to the recycler for $1 and then there’s government contracts on the back end, Aircraft carriers will never be sold to non accredited customers because of fears they can be purchased by foreign governments and analyzed. This is not abstract, in 2004, well back up, so in 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed the Soviet Navys main shipyards were in Mikolayev Ukraine and so the Ukrainian government ended up in possession of a Soviet Aircraft Carrier that was 60 percent complete, the Varyag. In 2004 the hulk was purchased by a Chinese businessman claiming either for scrap or a floating venue of some kind. It was towed back to China and after years of extensive work that ship is now an active duty carrier in the Chinese Navy, So the government will only sell big ships to the Brownsville shipyard. The plain view was an unarmed novel expirement so that’s why it ended up in private hands

Thanks. When I was a Boy Scout in the late ‘60s my scout master was involved in the hydrofoil program in Bremerton. He arranged a tour of the two ships in the program for his scouts. As I remember, the biggest problem with the hydrofoils was that if they struck a floating log while foiling there was severe damage. At that time, a lot of logs were moved by rafting in Puget Sound and there many “escapees” from the rafts.

I'd love to know how the area ended up with a Cornish name? 🤔
@JohnsNorthwestAdventures

A quick search mentions that the park was named after Stephen Penrose, who was the president of Whiteman College in Walla Walla. Lived 1884 to 1934

This wreck is on the north side of the Columbia River along Washington State highway 4, we used to go by it on the way the way to and from work, I always wanted to research it and write an article about it, knowing the name of the ship is a good start, thanks for the research about another ship that should be in a museum, not rusting along the Columbia River....

I sailed on the LT-2076 many times when she was an asset of the 467th Trans Co in the Army Reserve. She is a classic and was always popular at the Olympia Harbor Days tugboat races. I would love to see her as a museum ship one day, more especially as almost no one knows that the Army has boats and sailors.

The first thing I noticed as the drone came upon it was that it was an aluminum hull. Given the size, that is a huge amount of high grade aluminum. There must be something nasty down there, otherwise I doubt they would leave that aluminum behind, right there in shallow water, easily accessible. Definitely has to be a toxic reason why it is still there. You can see the remnants of a huge pier, all those poles, must have been a big operation there at one time.

That's very very common, especially if you're harvesting. If you can tell it's a keeper, you haul it to the bank. If it's not, you release it in the water without removing it. Sometimes the salmon is too dark or is decaying and it's noticed upon bringing it on the bank. From there it's pushed back out into the water. These are food fish with the intent of consuming them. They're at the end of their life cycle once they reach the creek and are not long for the world. The hatchery ensures that there are plenty of fish for every season and what the fisherman catch are what's left. It's a sustainable practice that helps provide food for those people who partake. I for one am someone who fishes this tributary and use those fish to feed my family.
