Its magical all around there. My cousin got married in the Church there, and afterwards we walked down to the bay for their reception. I cant think of the name of the house/hotel of the reception, but it had a huge glass conservatory type room overlooking the sea. This was back in the 90s and i never recognise or see the house now. Thanks for the happy memories!

That sea looks invitingly calm after a lot of stormy days recently. If you hadn't shown the footage now, it might have provided part of an idyllic summer evening scene. Have a happy Christmas and a few good nights in a proper bed!

We took some of the same walk in mid-July this year, starting in Wroxall and coming down the route you went up. It was fairly hot, and it was lovely. You had a fine bright midwinter day, but that bitter wind would have kept me in the car or in the pub! I had read about the search for St Boniface's well and the little monument to it, left late last century, but I thought the well was unfound and the plaque was now similarly lost in the woods. Thanks for showing it, and particularly for demonstrating the very short steep route back into the town, which I had thought was much less direct. Now I'll know how to burn off chips and ice cream consumed on the Esplanade in high summer...a very direct, very steep ascent through the woods to the radio mast 240m above the sea, and back down while mademoiselle dozes on the beach. 😄

I loved this video especially, as it reminded me of my days at St Catherine’s School which I attended from 1969 -1972. You passed it after your turned left onto Grove Rd at the top of Tulse Hill. We used to be taken to the top of St Boniface downs at least once a week as exercise. Happy days indeed.. Thanks for this upload 👍🙏🏽

You got some nice shots there and made good use of the light. There is no problem with the sound. I would look on eBay for a waterproof camera for videoing close to the sea, particularly in rough weather. The salt in the air penetrates electronic equipment and causes corrosion. Thanks for uploading.

Hi Steve First, thanks for sharing your walks and thoughts while walking round Ventnor and particularly in the St Lawrence area. We never miss one. In your recent walk with Frodo you mentioned having pain in your heel. Perhaps a coincidence but my wife has a very similar problem she first noticed on one of our frequent visits to the island. It seems it is very common in walkers and runners and is called plantar fasciitis. This KZbin video may be of interest …. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJycY3d9hd-JmLcsi=5fBCXplubUWIWTAB

That was built by Southern Water as part of its Seaclean Wight project. It houses big pumps underground. I think it pumps wastewater up and out to Ventnor to Sandown for treatment... It was designed to blend in. I theory one could build a pier extending seaward from it if the cash could be found

What a wonderful sunny day you had for that walk. Thanks once again for directing our attention to another lovely unfrequented spot on the island. We were at Appuldurcombe in July 2022 when temperatures on the mainland topped 40 Celsius. We stayed away from the crowded beaches and took a picnic to Brighstone Forest that day. It was so peaceful, and not so intolerably hot. I keep being pleasantly surprised at the number of bays, hilltop walks, charming woods and secluded beaches we've somehow never discovered - and which it seems, hardly anyone else has! Cheers.

That field where you parked was used for the Army to camp for some 'exercise' or other back in about mid 50's and at the top end of the field was my neighbours 'hut' fenced off where he kept some chickens. Being nosey around 9 or 10 yrs and living down at the Shore i went there to make friends with the soldiers, and had a kick about with their football. Then it was lunch time so I was allowed into the Mess Tent for a bowl of rice pudding....who could resist that?!! Back during WWII my Parents in the RAF/WRAF my Mother told me a story of those days, when they were home on leave and staying at my Grandads house on the Shore and went for a stroll up the road and went for a stroll up the road to the field, and having visited the chickens set off along the field when attacked by a ME109 German fighter who was probably bored and looking for something to shoot and saw the pair of them on the ground so decided to strafe them but luckily missed. Mum was pregnant with my sister (so around 1940) and Dad threw himself on top of her for protection, but she didn't appreciate his gesture being pregnant.....so I arrived into this world because (S)Hitler started WWII.....Bonchurch Shore, a great place to grow up, as the beach was out front for swimming, or to walk along to Luccombe - Shanklin, up the cliffs towards the landslip and Lucombe onwards. I believe the landslip is pretty destroyed now with all the land falls there due to the 'blue slipper' clay.but a great 'play ground' back then.

The walk past the Royal Hotel reminded me of my very short stint there as a waitress. During my one week of service, I managed to knock the trifle off the trolley (like pushing a washing machine between the tables - it was so heavy), and I also failed to master the silver service spoon and fork technique and deposited a quantity of whitebait in a woman's lap rather than on her plate. That job also taught me never to criticise waiting staff. There was one waiter who took revenge by adding an additional ingredient to the meals.

Perhaps take off the reflective foil from the window in the daytime. Just so people don’t get the impression that you are living in your car.

You could get one of those adjustable sprung rails that would fit from one side of the car to the other and you could just leave it there.
