made me shed a tear ,,, remembering jenny aguter and sally thomset as beautiful vibrant young women , they are now pensioners ( still beautiful ) ( as am i ) nearly a pensioner not beautiful ,, poor bernard died just as the new film was released ( wonder if he saw it ) glorious memories but time is such a ruthless bitch on its never ending onwards march

Lovely,I think this was my favourite film, loved Jennifer agutter, she was a natural and still is... I still get excited when it comes on now 😊 love watching the locations, I lived across from a railway station as a child whenever it was coming we use to run across the road to watch it go by, and get lost in the smoke. , there's just something about a steam train

One of my favourite films ever. Even now I cry when I hear “Daddy, my daddy “ Many moons later I saw that Sally Thomsett was on Twitter and she flowed me back immediately so she has become a good friend 🫶🏼☺️💫

I thought there was going to be no gravitas in the “Daddy, my daddy” scene. I knew it wasn’t going to be like the real thing, but, it still had me in tears. What a film. Many, many thanks for making this documentary.

I just watched the series and I am delighted to see the sites so well preserved and remembered! EDIT Just realized there is a series in b&w and the newer film. I was indeed referring to the older series....

Jenny agutter was just so perfect for the film and with all the inocence that went with it and to this day i still watch the film over and over again, because if they ever do a remake the actors would be covered in tattoos and using foul language which would wreck the quality of the bygone era.So top marks steve for doing this for us and we look forward to more of the same if you can manage it. Regards and thanks a bunch J.T.

Blimey I was 11 in 1st year Secondary school when I 1st watched the movie and have only just found out I was lied too. Sally Thomsett wasn't 11 but 20 and Jenny Aguther was 18. They had me totally fooled as a youngster 😊

With other members of my school film society I went to watch the filming a few times. Many years later whilst working as a cameraman on Scrapheap Challenge I shot this take-off of the 'Daddy, my Daddy!' scene. for a railway themed episode. We didnt shoot on the KWVR but used the Forest of Dean Railway in Gloucestershire instead. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5-8q5SHo7OcsLc

Hard to believe that the film’s fifty years old now. The two girls in the re+creation of the ‘daddy’ scene look a bit older than the characters in the film. Pity the main line to Halifax and Bradford Exchange via Queensbury closed in 1955. Some bridge abutments for that line can still be seen from a passing KWVR train between the site of the junction and Ingrow (West) Station.

So nice to think steam is still in charge on these rails all these years later from when it was first opened in 1867. My dad was on the railways 47 years and when i see s team locomotive I always think of him on the footplate....

The levy was put there just for the film. When my family lived there there was an out side toilet in the back yard which was called a tippler toilet and as a child I was terrified every time I used it in case I fell down it. 😀

I thought the film was reasonable only story poor and acting by the children very poor indeed. The remake was even worse. ( Great shame). I was born in 1955 so know a good British film. This film was like plastic.

To be fair, the remake was pointless. The 1970 film was perfection and had everything it possibly could have, and being timeless there was no need for the remake. Was the remake a vanity project or something?
