I play variety of music such as gospel, jazz, funk, blues, and then sometimes in the country part of music and also some 90s rock to heavy metal rock. I was wondering, do you think it would be a good bass all around? For those genres

Not all gain comes from the tone stack. You should compensate the loss with master volume anyway. I also think bass & treble controls are not passive, they actually can only add, remember there’s a 12ax7 driving the tone stack for that exact purpose. Go at tone stack calculator online and you’ll see that the actual ‘flat’ eq is with mid at max and bass and treble at minimum. It’s the same old trick with Fender blackface amps, you dial low numbers on BMT and that allows you to turn the volume more, resulting in more saturation & compression.

hey man, great video; thanks for the upload. i actually have the same exact cab, only thing is mine hasnt been cut down yet. i opened it up and was stoked to find that its loaded with identical 66 jenson c12n's that yours has and it sounds really tight. I want to go ahead and cut it down but i have a couple question before i ruin it lol. i notice the cab is technically sealed as it sits currently, thats what made me go ahead and pursue doing this. its sat untouched for like 6 years but i randomly plugged it in and was really surprised at how good it sounds. technically it doesnt matter that its a combo i guess because the speaker section is sealed but it looks pretty shit as it sits, definetely want to replicate yours. in a perfect world i could just cut the top part away, it would still be sealed but then it wouldnt have a top. is the top on yours the old top before it was cut down? like were the vertical sides just cut out and then the thing sandwiched together? it seems like it because the tolex matches very well and i imagine the weird grey is tough to find nowadays. its hard to tell from the pictures though, so if you could confirm or deny that would be awesome! even better if you could email me over a couple pics. to be honest i was surprised to find this video haha, i wanna say were maybe the only 2 guys with sound 2x12 combos that were missing the amp chassis lol, and are being used as speaker cabs.
@JoeHartRocks19 күн бұрын
I bought it like this. But it DOES look like it was just cut and sandwiched back together. I've never done that, but I've seen some tutorials. If you can carefully cut peel some of the tolex before cutting the wood, then you could use that tolex to wrap around the bare (newly cut) edges of the sides and still have a nice-looking cab. Does that make sense? I'd be happy to email pictures. How can I get your email?

yeah, i just bought a 196, Samick factory EJ 200, same issues, synthesisied 'bone ' saddle and nut, so changed both of these and replaced the top 4 strings with 10's, action came up nicer far more reasonant and as you say, iots a tank, so best played stood up with a strap. its ok, but not anywhere as nice as the Gibxson J200

Went to Guitar Center last week to try out some guitars and decide which one would become my very first guitar ever. After a good bit of KZbin research, I honestly thought I'd be walking out with a $200 Squier Sonic Strat. But this beauty was on sale for only $150, and I just loved the way it felt and sounded. I couldn't agree more about how nice the neck feels, I liked it more than every other guitar I picked up (including some that were 4x the price). I absolutely LOVE the satin finish personally, I had heard some KZbin guitar reviewers describe it as "feeling like paper" but I feel like that's a terrible comparison, it's so much smoother and nicer than that. Finally, the SG body shape is just something cool and different... the classic Strat shape is iconic, but I feel it's just so common and is overly imitated by almost every other guitar brand in existence. I can still only play 5 chords, but I'm loving my SG so far!

Glad you found a guitar that you love!! And only 5 chords so far... AC/DC made a career out of less than that!!! 😁

The problem with most/all "beginner" amps is that they're combo from factory with a shitty small speaker, hook it up to a good 2x12 or 4x12 and that baby SINGS

Can I use PA speakers external cab what’s your opinion about that?
@JoeHartRocks22 күн бұрын
Sure. Try whatever!! Just be sure that you're matching the impedance and using speakers rated to handle whatever wattage amp you're pushing them with.

Sorry newbie here, does the head have a speaker or does it have to have the cab as well. Someone's selling one brand new for £100 just the head.
@JoeHartRocksАй бұрын
The head is just the amplifier part. But you can hook up many different speakers and/or speaker combinations to the head. You just have to match the impedance (the ohm rating). But the head is just the amplifier part, so no sound without a speaker.

It does... Kind of... Sound like a humbucker. I mean, it bucks the hum. :-) I actually like it. It sounds like a really fat single coil... Sort of... But the amp and any pedals make a bigger difference, so YMMV.

I tried compensating by raising the bridge pickup and lowering the neck, but it didn't really help much.
