Saw some of these in my backyard in MI last night, thought i was going crazy and spent an hour or so online trying to figure out what I saw. I think most of this video is timelapsed or slowed down, they look just like the blinking at the start and end of this video. Thanks for putting this up, I dont think they are usually native here but this summer's been pretty muggy.

Just to think, all of that once was living coral with vibrant colors.
@wolfesam5 жыл бұрын
This area wasn't home to bright corals. At least not in any sort of recent history. The reef here is made up of limestone and worm reef made by sabellariid worms. There are scattered stony corals, such as oculina, as well as some gorgonians, but that's about it.
@mr.stauffersnaturechannel4 жыл бұрын
@James O'Brien- No. This is a sandcastle worm reef, not a coral reef.

i live in port orange so anywhere between fort pierce and west palm are my go to places for "summer water" during winter, does anyone know if the water will be this clear in late february, or must it be spring/summer/fall....palm county beaches are always my favorite, but fort pierce is a bit closer for a day trip
@wolfesam5 жыл бұрын
It's really hit or miss this time of year. A couple days ago it was flat with top to bottom vis, and now the water is churned up again. You really have to pay attention to what the sea conditions have been for the past few days. Good luck!
@josephpawlowski58105 жыл бұрын
@@wolfesam Thanks. What should I be looking for? The only thing I could think of is wind.
@wolfesam5 жыл бұрын
@@josephpawlowski5810 Wind is definitely important. A west wind will help flatten the beach down a lot. Another thing to look at is the surf report/forecast. If you go to MagicSeaweed dot com, you can pull up the surf forecast for Fort Pierce. You'll want it to be 1' or flat for a couple days prior to going there.

@@wolfesam Thanks a lot! Would you believe I went today, and it was actually pretty clear, but the lifeguard asked me not to go out because of all the sharks in the area hahha, I guess I have to wait a few weeks. I want to check out Sebastian Inlet too.

@@josephpawlowski5810 Ha! I didn't even think about the sharks migrating through right now. Would've made for some interesting swimming, though! Sebastian Inlet can be a cool area, just need to catch the tide right.

Stunning! My daughter & I are newly ow certified; we live in PA, but have family in Vero and are normally down at least twice a year... If you have any recommendations for dive shops in the area, I'd love to hear them! Thanks!
@wolfesam6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Kirk! As far as local dive shops, the most popular here in Vero is Deep Six. Then again, they are the ONLY dive shop in Vero. If you need gear or tanks filled, they are fine. They can also line you up with a dive trip, but they go out of West Palm. There's another shop in Fort Pierce called Dive Odyssea. They rent/sell gear as well, but are much more of a 'mom and pop' store.

@wolfesam8 жыл бұрын
There's no snorkeling classes around here. And to be honest, in November the water will probably be too churned up to snorkel here in Vero. If you go farther south toward West Palm you can find cleaner water. There might be somewhere down there that offers snorkeling trips. Good luck!

So where are some good spots to spear around there? I dove there one time about a year ago and only saw some sheepshead.
@wolfesam13 жыл бұрын
@bEasy2o1o The kayak is just a little 9' 6" Heritage (sit-in). I do dive/spear in the area, though it's usually a beach dive. Not able to dive off my kayak since it's a sit-in. I do fish out of the kayak a lot though, it just has to be pretty flat before I will take it out. Nothing like hooking a nice smoker king on a live bait from a small boat!
