Why did it have to take 12 years for me to discover this? Damn, I was even still living in New York at that time (seems like lifetimes ago today). And that's not to mention the final blow dealt to the music culture by the pandemic, at least here in the U.S. [edit] Correction: 14 years, according to their Bandcamp page. That's how you know you're surviving in a musically-dead society. Did I mention how absolutely brilliant this is? These guys ought to have moved to Japan by now.

This is an extraordinarily beautiful track. That said, I have to say something about Steve Smith's drumming. He's a great drummer but he always has to prove something, and it gets in the way of the music. Steve, just relax and listen; listen to your muse, rather than Gary Chaffee and the pundits in Modern Drummer. This is so nearly a really great performance.

For me it is difficult to believe that, based on what I know about him, Aydin probably just sat one day and wrote the sheets for the orchestra out of the blue, and then he improvised on the spot the piano part of a song that I will love and try to understand for the rest of my life. Most of us are human beings, but few people like him are truly being human.
