Flag Pond has been my father's family home for over 200 years. Don't know what it looks like after the storm. I spent every summer in the apple orchard. Beautiful country

Hey nice video, what month and day you were riding there , looks like it was at the end of fall time
@tombiggs46874 ай бұрын
I really like that you post the road name/number always, and nearby features like lakes. Too many videos just show the riding but when it looks good, I have to do serious detective work to find out the roads they actually took. I guess it's natural for you as a cartographer to do this, but I appreciate it. I used to spend many cold winter nights poring over the DeLorme state atlas maps, and now google maps, to find roads like this. I've been leading rides more often in the last few years - I used to just follow - and I like finding all the hidden gem roads in the mountains and sharing them with friends.

Just found y'all and think your videos are superb! The road signs on the upper right corner are a great help for anyone wanting to visit. I'm in the ATL area and always up in the GA/NC/SC/TN mountains riding. Yeah, no desire to ride the Dragon anymore--too much traffic & too many idiots, however the Cherohala is always fun. We even stopped at the Snowbird Lodge a few years back, but never stayed over. Again, great job and thanks!

Looks like a nice place. My wife and I went to Maggie Valley and took in DWTT museum, super cool place. I'd like to get my Indian on the Cherohala at some point. I see this was back during the plannedemic, glad that is over!

I remember ‘finding’ this road on my triumph bonnevile in the ‘80’s. In those days, WV seemed like a very exotic place for someone from NY. There was like zero other motorcycles. Virtually No ATM’s. But cheap motels we’re really cheap, and small cafes that served ‘soup beans’, collards and cornbread were plentiful and friendly. One more thing, coal. It was everywhere. Especially scattered all over the roads from the coal hauling trucks. And getting caught behind one of those trucks could be an adventure with coal bouncing all around. Then came the 90’s and the Brit bikes were replaced by big, air cooled Italian twins. That was the shit. The golden era of WV motorcycle sport touring. It’s still wild and wonderful, of course, but the exotic feel, along with those magical WV accents, is mostly a thing of the past. C’est la vie. Fwiw, after 15 years away from motorcycles, I put my old Moto guzzi Lemans back together and I’m heading down for one last ride down rt 16 (and a few other WV roads that are etched in my memory). Thanks for posting the video. Ride safe.

These are my weekend jaunts in Oct along with Cherohala and Joyce Kilmer...about 1hr to 90 minutes away. Very good ride choices. Oh, for motourers, there are TVA free camp sites on Lake Chatgue... no facilities so bring a gallon of water, tp and a trowel. City of Hiawassee is my favorite riding city since the lake spreads out on either side of downtown with mountains behind in 360. Another pairing with Basstown Bald is to go south on 17 toward Helen and pick up the skyway back toward Vogel/Suches. Stop at Hogpen Gap overlook just past the AT crossing to look out at Brasstown Bald tower. The best motorcycle road in the area.

Any suggestions for where motorcycle riders can camp? We used to stay at the Blue Ridge Motorcycle campground - but it has been closed since the bridge washed out during Hurricane Fred.
