Hello, have you managed to solve the problems with that good old vintage Yamaha PSS 780? I had one of these a few years ago and yes, it’s very good but I preferred the PSS 680 as I preferred the music styles on it. I used to have a 680 many years ago and I regretted selling it and now, I managed to salvage one recently in excellent condition and it included the proper Yamaha power supply and I don’t hear any unusual noises in the background. It seems to work perfectly well and runs perfect on 6 C size batteries.

The sacrifice was not in vein, I learned a lot from this and will definitely NOT be attempting to do anything with the screens. I was thinking of creating a "pro" pocket operator with upgraded and stronger metal potentiometers, plus more substantial buttons, then putting it all in some kind of metal case with wood sides and turning it into a proper piece of gear that would actually survive a gig.

The effort for restoring a tape deck is enormous, which is literally a useless device for today. But the happiness and satisfaction that comes with it is priceless. Writing this just after restoring an Aiwa TPR-860, over a period of two weeks! Appreciate your videos showing the details of restoration.
@jamesbennettmusicАй бұрын
Thanks! I did this over about a week I think, and I sort of agree. For being probably the most ubiquitous, long adopted recording format ever made, a huge part of the cassette deck tactile experience is lost if they don't actually work. In my opinion they make lousy ornaments if you can't plug one in and play with it! They deserve better, as do people who still own or procure tapes to this day.

Another 'wow' thank heavens I found your video! I was reassembling having used another video showing how to get it apart to get at the belts but on reaching the bit where I wanted to get the flat belt off I found my set up was different, it took me a while to discover the screw under the spring, like you I undid the wrong one to begin with! I had also hooked up the belts incorrectly, again like you did thought the small pulley on the top of the black wheel was for a belt, I've had to turn the board over and rearrange the belts! As you say, there are differences in the same model numbers, it gets confusing. There's been a few things in your video I'd add to, like screwing the chassis back temporarily, I decided to do the same but could see the screws were too long to actually hold it in place so I made four spacers with what I had to hand, plastic rawlplugs, cut at 15mm each, held the chassis nicely. Sadly a few features of mine aren't working, auto stop, the counter is intermittent, it crackles whenever a button is pressed and worst of all the right hand speaker is very very faint. they both worked on radio and there was no crackling before I pulled it all apart! I guess I'll just have to go through it all again looking for faults. I hope I haven't made it worse while trying to make the tape deck work.

Hi James. I just came across this video while looking to see if there was anyone besides me that would even consider troubleshooting and attempt to repair something like this, and ended up watching the entire clip. It was suspenseful, at times :-) I felt like I was at a sports event cheering on my team to win! And they did! Lol. I have a similar pedal, the NUX Loop Core, and only used it for about 3 hours before it "died". Not like yours, but on the Input end. I opened it up and tried to match up some chips, but after an hour it went back to my "junk bin". I tried getting a schematic from NUX, but was unable. That was about 4 years ago. After watching your video, I now have a much better understanding of what I'm looking at after you explained the chips, their functions, and shown the scope signals. I'm going to give it another try today after being inspired by your video. Thank you for taking the time to put this together and share it with us. I haven't ever tried replacing SMD components, but I'll try anything, at least once in life. Lol Thanks again.
