Awesome demo on destructive testing on the cabinets. You could also add 2”x2” cleats cut at a 45° angle and install on each cabinet corner. Adding screws and construction adhesive in the corners.

What size tubing and wall thickness did you use? how thick was the flat stock you used?
@bigskymaker9 күн бұрын
1.5” posts. 1x2 and 1x1 tubing. All of that .083 which I believe is 14 gauge. And 3/16 or 1/4 flat bar.

I've made hundreds of cabinets, both utility and finished, and none have ever failed. I have made them "wrong" several times for utility cabinets using scrap pieces of plywood with glue and screws. I have even tried tearing them apart when they were no longer needed and found them to be so strong, it took quite a lot of force to break them apart. Some of these utility cabinets were used to hold over a hundred pounds of nails and screws for years! Yes, there is an optimal way to build cabinets, but if enough glue and an appropriate number of screws are used, it really doesn't matter. Great video, keep educating the unwashed masses!😁
@bigskymaker14 күн бұрын
Thanks Tom! I’ll try. It’s amazing what glue and screws will hold together.

Thank you man, I am hanging a couple of cabinets in my garage and I was worried that the whole thing could collapse on top of my car. I certainly won't load them so much but the weight of the cabinets itself got me worried. I'll just make sure to hang them correctly and I think they will be ok.
@bigskymaker14 күн бұрын
Make sure you hit the studs with the right screw and you should be fine. I use a French cleat in my garage.

Picked those up used a few years back. Didn’t know the brand. Bora makes one that’s essentially the same thing. If you have the space for one they are game changers for equipment.

@bigskymaker I'm a woodworker as well. Just a home hobbyist. I wondered if there is any racking on the bench when planing etc. Love the dogs, do understand what the second little hole with the metal pin inside the dog hole is though? Tension or something?
@bigskymaker25 күн бұрын
No racking. It’s built like a tank. Weighs probably 3-400 lbs. the dogs are raised and lowered within the outer hole that pivots 360 degrees and are held up or down by magnets within the through hole.
@Myrddraal1225 күн бұрын
@bigskymaker oh wow that's heavy. Even more impressive you man handling up now. Never seen talkative with dogs. Nice.

I’m a shallow drawer man. The depth of the drawer is determined based upon the height of similar containers which are being stored in the drawer(s). I’m going to begin building drawer cabinets based off of your build provided in this video for my out feed/assembly table in the morning. Very well done video and discussion.
