He does not love the attention, he was incredibly shy, hated public speaking, hated going to conferences and having to meet all these people and talk to them, and was genuinely terrified of all those things until the very end. His interviews show him as being very shy, reserved, even awkward, often letting the interviewer speak for him and merely adding "I couldnt have said it better myself".
