I've lived in West Seattle since 2021 and have wondered about that bridge for as long as I've been here. How often does it close? It seems to be open the vast majority of the time.

Driving over bridges really scares me, so I need to know about them before I drive. And this was so helpful, thank you!

I drove on this bridge from both sides. The Oregon side to Washington is where I lost my mind! As I approached the on-ramp, and started climbing, it felt like I was climbing into the sky, higher and higher, with no tall guard rails to make one feel safe. Keeping me eyes directly on the road, I didn't see any end in sight, so my senses were telling me that I was just going to keep going higher and higher. This was the worst experience of my life on any road trip. Leaving the Washington side was no picnic either. They were doing road work on the tallest grade of this stupid bridge, and I drive a stick shift. My clutch started to slip, and I thought if the construction workers stopped me as I was approaching the peak, I was going to roll backwards into cars. Thankfully they put away their "STOP" sign for 1 minute. The makers of this bridge could have at least put higher guard rails on the ramps as a driver goes around the bends. I think a sadist designed this.

So I’ve got a funny story. So it was 2020 in south central Indiana. And at that time the L&I local was the only thing still running and the csx road trains quit running. So back on this industrial spur there is a steel place with a little track mobile a 4000tm to be exact. It would push cars out about 500 feet to a switch where this local would pick them up. I really wanted to see this little operation. I didn’t know of these until recently up until that time so I went to KZbin I found this video and you can hear that distinct reverse siren thing chirping. So a few weeks later I show up in this area one nice day granted it’s an industrial area. I bike up the road to another industry served by this local. When I heard this distinctive chirping. From where I’m at I was really close to the 500 feet stretch of track but I had to bike along the road witch took about a mile to get to this spot. Well I hear this chirping and I go biking like a mad man for this one mile stretch to where. What I believed was that track mobile backing freight cars outside. I ended up seeing nothing because it must have been another vehicle. but looking back on it having seen this

For those who do not know, this is the replacement tunnel for the original Cascade Tunnel. The opening for this one is close to the original one, which was the site of the 1910 Wellington, Washinton avalanche train disaster.

I drove over that bridge just a few days ago. I have to admit, I found it a bit scary. I didn't freak out and stop in the middle of the road or anything, but it made me uneasy. The worst part is the on-ramp on the Oregon side where it climbs and then bends toward the main/tall span.

Drove across it from Astoria to Washington all the way to Seattle . We were on a driving holiday from Ireland. We then went across to Vancouver Island.
