Few questions. Would the cheap tent and bag you got for your $1k AT videos you are doing now hold up to Nz? I'm a kiwi and I live tramping and camping but I don't back pack. I'm looking into it. Doing point Elizabeth this Arvo with my mum.

Firefighting requires an insane amount of skill and knowledge that people don’t realize. It almost makes me sick someone would even think about it being “unskilled”

I feel like I missed something here. How do you have $953 dollars left on the budget after all the gear you bought? Did you have a $1000 for gear and another $1000 for food?
@shayzoo23 сағат бұрын
It might be worth getting one of those transfer devices so you can combine the partially empty fuel canisters into one canister when you find them in the hiker boxes.

The lack of stability while living like this is starting to get hard for me, now that I'm 30 hahahaha but my friend said "maybe there's stability in your instability" because if I was working constantly I would be so mentally unstable that I would have a break down

This is amazing. I'm very budget bound and it's nice to see a thru hiker taking $$$ into account. I'm cheering for you!

In this video you shared details previously unknown to me of how you funded your amazing hikes. Thanks! I am reminded of Peace Pilgrim saying her journey wasn’t for everyone, especially for folks with family responsibilities. That’s why about six weeks in I became an AT section hiker after initially planning a thru hike for 2008. And because of that plan change I had the good fortune of meeting and hiking with you a bit in VA and ME in 2016 when I completed my AT section hike-then remained acquainted and spent an evening, night, and morning with you on the AT in 2022 during your epic CYTC. I think we all face a myriad of choices over the course of our lives, each potentially life changing for good or ill (with nothing being permanent). If made with positive intentions for all concerned and followed through with persistence and integrity, the best possible outcomes will result. 22:24

You're the most hardcore of these KZbin hikers and don't just glorify gear that will alienate new hikers because they can't afford them, you actually make it accessible by showing how it can be done simply and cheap, rather than just showing shiny new gear that will make you a " real" hiker. You're a breath of fresh air in the outdoor community

this is great. very motivating. i have the opportunity to not do what i hated and am trying to get myself to find out how to get the opportunities to do what i actually want. i am probably still scared to take the first step and just let it evolve from there without having it planned out. it was good to hear it!

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I know many people think they can’t afford a thru hike, but you’re showing it’s truly possible. As someone who pretty much hikes with my dog all of the time I rarely stay in hotels, never in a hostel and spend very little time in town. I do this because of my dog but it really does cut down on cost. I am sure this series will inspire others to get out and hike. Thank you.

Digging the Sadhana/morning practices. I agree that it can be easy to slip into detachment with some practices. For me it was the journey of learning between detachment and non attachment. For me non attachment is being present with all things, pleasant /unpleasant without holding on or avoiding, so non judgement so there is no attachment, so you still experience life to its fullest without becoming sort of robotic detached observer all the time. So other meditations you may enjoy, a couple qigong ones, visualise sending light from your heart, to the heart of those you come across, with an inner smile. I visualise a green beam connecting my heart to theirs. Anothed is pore breathing, perfect walking meditation. So while walking or sitting just imagine all the qi/light around you, in the leaves, trees, streams, being breathed into every pore of your being with each inhalation, and back out to the leaves, trees, streams on the exhale, as you exchange /share with your surroundings. Its quite energising! Im enjoying your journey, thanks.

For myself it's the hike and not the designation that matters. Might be one reason I am so slow and take life easy. If I wanted to rush , hurry and be speedy I would stay on hard pavement and in town. Two benefits of being retired and over the hill , age wise. LOL.

I am really digging the concept of this hike…I have never followed anyone doing the extreme budget angle. I have hiked enough of the AT to know the temptations of splurging when you go through a town.
