If there is no stamp, but it’s being sold as real gold, how do you test what level it is? It has the snake “clasp” so I presume it’s close to 24 but it could be less

What is the ratio for mixing boric acid and alcohol? Im jus getn started in tbe field could use some tips. Thank you
@simonzjewelry
@simonzjewelry 6 ай бұрын
you want to leave a coating of boric acid on your metal after burning off the alcohol. You do not want too much and you’re not gonna want too little, I use about 2. 3 parts of boric acid and the rest alcohol.

Hi Simon, I'm having a very thin ring resized from a 7 and a half to a 7 it's a criss cross ring with small diamonds on the criss cross. The jewler is charging me 168.00 for this with a cleaning. It's a super thin band. Am I being ripped off no diamonds near the part that needs to be removed to make the ring smaller but it is very thin. What do you think?

Hi what is the plaster called thank you and is it important to vacuum it
@simonzjewelry
@simonzjewelry Жыл бұрын
We buy a plaster called ultra vest. Vacuuming is important for me because of the details in which I don’t want to have metal bubbles. If you’re doing a plain wedding band, you may be able to do it without vacuuming, but at that point I would look into sand casting instead of vacuum or centrifugal.

What gauge wire are you using for the bezels?
@simonzjewelry
@simonzjewelry 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Todd, it really depends on the size of the stone, and the girdle of the stone.
@ToddGodfrey
@ToddGodfrey 2 жыл бұрын
@@simonzjewelry Ok. But , just as an example, if the stones on that necklace were 3.00 mm or thereabouts what gauge did you use?
@simonzjewelry
@simonzjewelry 2 жыл бұрын
Todd I try to make the wire for the bezel as thin as possible or needs to be, I want to show as much of the stone as possible. I look at the thickness of the girdle, size and type of chain… A 3 mm stone would probably be a wire under a millimeter more than likely about 3/4 of a millimeter. Not sure what gauge that is, I’ve always tried to work in proportion to the job in front of me. Sam 847-338-8031

Is boric acid necessary? Can I use vinegar and salt for pickling before and after solder? what type of flux do I need? I found aquiflux spray bottle on amazon, however I feel this is not ideal for such a small repair.
@simonzjewelry

boric acid helps to protect stones and the metal from fire scale and oxidation... a must in many cases. You need to find a jewelry tools supplier for flux and ... Should Not be a big problem these days.
