Have you tried doing two part molds? Along with preheating you should be able to get more detail than open face moulds.

Anyone know if it possible to make a graphite mold by mixing graphite powder with clay like when graphite crucibles are made and then taking an impression of a model?

I too, have too many hobbies. Have you stuck with the lr2? Coming back to mine all you see now is the lr3. I like being able to undo two belts and getting it off a table.

I had an issue with the spindle mount (the PLA softened and the router slipped due to heat)--I have re-designed that part since then. Unfortunately I had to take it down to make room in the garage for awhile :( It should cut a few inches (depends on the bit used) but I have about 4" of travel or so in the z-axis.

1/8" 20 degree v-bit (basically a tiny engraving bit) to do it again, I would rough with a 1/8" single flute, then fine detail with the engraving bit.

Awesome build. I got here following a link on your V1 forum build. I’m building an LR3, and saw this, and the original design and think it looks great, very functional. I do have a question though- why not utilize the 2x4 cutouts in the sawhorses and make a table without the additional cradle? You could flip it 90 degrees and offset the rails vertically to clear the sawhorses, then build with the furniture clips and removable torsion boxes. I only ask because I just bought 2 of the same sawhorses for a different project and immediately saw how I could use them for an LR3 table. Looking forward to seeing more LR2 videos!

I had to put small (5mm or so) brass spacers between the wheel and the Y-carriage so that the wheels would clear the bolts. Other than that nothing else..

Very interesting. I've been planning something vaguely similar. In my case, I want to use my workbench as the platform. I've been planning a set of removable rails similar to your box beams that would mount on either side of the long axis of the bench. I had been wondering about how to engineer the rails, your box beams are a great idea.

Nothing profoundly different no--Alignment and squaring are the biggest things to get right and the V-slot rails are a must in my opinion--single best thing to keep the gantry parallel even after installing dual Y-end stops.
