Hopefully none will die before they get around to visiting again. It does happen. I get they need to save to buy a house... and it's fine to make that choice. The dad still gave dome money. However part of me just knows time is fleeting. It's a balance in life.

YTA for insisting that he quits the job despite the fact that he has offered multiple solutions to their financial problems. He is willing to work an additional part time job and/or ask for help from his parents, so OP can at least let him try those options before making any drastic decisions. You know, friends tend to lose touch with each other naturally. Let him be one of those for your life. He is obviously pushing away from you. Just do the same with him. When he calls, if he does, be yourself, of course, just don't be available to his wants and requests. Accept all other invites but his. Accept invites where he will most likely be. Live your life around him and not with him. Be happy and enjoy yourself without him. It will make him realize what he gave up. Be happy with yourself. Enjoy yourself. Be yourself. That's really cold. I wonder if his fiance had something to do with the guest list too. Something isn't right here, and his friend isn't telling the whole truth. And he wants to treat OP like everything's just fine. I think I'd consider this friendship all done.

Not sure what OP's dad's problem is. Obviously, she was not the golden child, and it's pretty crappy when you get the back of a parent's hand. My mother had the same reaction when I had to cancel a trip home because my husband needed some expensive dental work. Her comment was basically why shouldn't you be broke like the rest of us. Because I have a better idea, that's why.

The rest of the story-The only thing I have is that I am skinnier. But ever since my sister has developed an eating disorder, I feel a lot of pressure in also restricting my diet. It's so exhausting .. I don't know how to just "accept" that she is pretty, and will be prettier than me. I have fears that my future partner will make a comment in his head that I am the less hotter one -- or that anyone I actually choose to pursue may want my sister first (which, consequently, has happened before). I do my best to accept the hand I was dealt. But it's hard to when your sister has the better hand.
