XTC was always so underrated, and even more so when they stopped playing live. A real shame that Andy couldn't have continued touring so they could expose the band to more potential fans. I've read this was one of the main reasons Terry left. A bunch of super talented musicians with brilliant music that never caught on with the mainstream success that they deserved. I love that Terry is still out there playing!❤

Would be great to hear these Xmas songs! In an album. I miss the catchy punk rock new wave style of old. I was so lucky to see xtc live at the Hammersmith odeon. 😌

I have to admit, I had only discovered them with The Big Express -which was to me a revelation at that time. It took a bit longer for me to aprreciate Skylarking. I do remember the LP standing for quite some time in "later" batch near my hifi set after first hearing. Over the years it became one of my favourite in their rich oeuvre. It is of tragically poetic that their stylings never caught on quite the way they would have deserved - but we should be thankful they stuck around for that extended amount of time to leave us with the kind of catalogue we can now look back on. Others might have given up much sooner being jerked around by record company and manager.

So there's at least two sides to every story. For the longest time, I ate up the version of Andy Partridge he propagated for quite some time: that Rundgren had "taken hostage" the recordings and the band was appaled to be excluded after the recording. More and more, I come to think that Rundgren is the best thing that could've happened to them at that point in their "career". Skylarking borders on 'overproduced' - but it never tilts over to that side. Just a slew of fantastic songs with dense, magnificent arrangements.

I bought 26 KISS albums growing up. Doubled a few from cassette. Straight from the record store and cd store new. He earned that money. Always respect for the Beatles.

What an Absolutely Wonderful interview with Dave an unsung Hero and a huge part of the Brilliance of XTC. The band without Dave's Musical Talent is unimaginable, Andy and Colin get all the Plaudits but the Importance of Dave and Terry to the band cannot be over Emphasised. Thanks for being part of the world's most Underestimated/Misunderstood and Greatest band ever, you'll hopefully get recognition someday and will be remembered always.

I know Andy wouldn't do it, but I would pay top dollar to have a tour of Swinton with it's history and his musician inside info. I don't think I am alone. Andy, many appreciate you in your time and would appreciate being with you while you are still on Earth. Consider it.

Yep the one shown at the end no longer exists. That's the one that appears in XTC "Play at Home" and Andy's "Our Swindon" video. If you can make it to the XTC Festival next year you'll see the building where it previously existed. Might also meet Ken White himself!
