wait.. i didnt see you swap the key on the ryobi... how'd you use 2 batteries ok you addressed it at the end definitely makes a difference Also chamge the blades on ryobi to match and youd see its as good or better

I bought the Ryobi , the ego does seem slightly better but I’ve had a good experience so far and love that there are so many different Ryobi tools that use the same battery.

I like the tough test, I think most mowers will cut well if one was to follow all the proper cutting techniques posted. This test shows what to expect should you let your grass overgrow, mower performance in extreme conditions.

My Ryobi is less than a year old and the blade motor is not working. Ryobi customer service is terrible and really slow to repair or replace and so far haven’t given me any information on what they are going to do about it. I had to buy a used gas mower while I wait.

I'm not going to lie, I've been a ryobi fan since when I was working in construction and everybody was touting their Milwaukee, Makita and one guy was boasting about his Hilti branded tools, but when it came to the perilous places everyone was happy with my Ryobi... Because when something goes wrong, just drop the Ryobi because it's affordable to replace, where the Hilti needed to be guarded with your life as that's a whole weeks paycheck to replace.... And performance-wise they're equal... If someone is up in the raftors, they'd just toss up my Ryobi and even when it was missed and hit the floor, it keep working like a champ, but the Hilti was treated with kid gloves and still needed to be taken to a repair shop...btw I purchased the Ryobi lawnmower and my wife loves it... Being disabled I can't pull a string start mower and hold the lever at the same time... But I just loaded the charged battery squeezed the lever and pushed the blade- start button all with one hand, and got to work... When I was done I used 2 bars on the battery, even with using the self-propell feature...

I wanted to like the ego, but their batteries seem to have changed to cheaper cells. The one thing this review misses is the huge variety in the Ryobi line and fact you can get good deals on their batteries direct from TTI. EGO batteries are cost you quite a bit more.

I agree with several comments - in tall grass, always start with discharge, and mulch the shorter grass on a 2nd cut.

Nice side by side. my question and sorry if I missed this were the batteries new I remember you saying slightly used but the price seemed really reduced? I believe like you mentioned ego is top dog in Outdoor consumer lawn equipment. Glad you made the disclaimer one was new and thought your test was laid out visually well for easy comparison. Great comparison. be careful draining those 40v batteries too deeply where the ryobie wont put out enough charge to get them charged again. temps can hurt batteries as well. Now we need to see ego headsup against millwaukee and dewalt on the Greeniron...Gridiron field! Great job.
@MONTOD Жыл бұрын
yes, the ryobi was slightly used. hard to know how used, but by the look of the blades possibly one to two uses.

My lawn has no need to be mulched. What I’m looking for is a simple mower just discharge & let it go
@jimnorwood8748 Жыл бұрын
When a Li-Ion battery shuts off the first time that's the BMS (Battery Management System) inside the battery pack TELLING YOU it's time to recharge the battery. What many don't know is that OVER DISCHARGING the pack by re-starting the mower after shutdown WILL REDUCE THE LIFESPAN of the battery pack.

luscious usually pertains to taste or smell. Lush would probably be a better word choice. That is, unless you are thinking about eating some grass, in which case keep using luscious. 😅 I knew what you meant though, and you put a big smile on my face. 😊
@MONTOD Жыл бұрын
key word is "usually", luscious has five meanings. one of them is arousing physical desire, I might have meant that one😏

Cutting overgrown grass like that with a mulching plug in is probably why you had mixed results. I’d like to see you do it again on side discharge to see if it keeps them from bogging down.

The motor revving up when it is going threw thicker grass has nothing to do with it being brushless. A brushed motor can have that technology function.

I have a greenworks 40 volt 21 inch cut self propelled mower and it doesn't do as good as the Ryobi 40 volt 21 inch self propelled mower I've had for about 5 years. I recently purchased a Power smart 26 inch cut 80 volt self propelled mower and it's better than the Greenworks 40 volt self propelled mower and the Ryobi 40 volt 21 inch cut self propelled mower. If I was buying a 21 inch cut self propelled mower again it would be a Ryobi. Greenworks don't come close.

I bought an EGO 2110 self propelled to make it easier to mow uneven ground in hot weather. Read all the reviews. Wish I had seen info on the battery size and weight before I bought it. If I had I would not have bought it. I have a really hard time handling that huge heavy battery. Do not like it at all. And no directions at all in the manual about what the lights mean. Just directions about blade changing and things I would hire out and never do myself. I have had a WORX 56V push mower for about 6 years. I can grip those batteries with one hand. Like them much better. They are 2 # 2 3/4 oz each vs 6 #5 oz for the EGO. Glad I still have that mower.

YOu might also note that the Ryobi self-propel motor is not brushless and is rated by Ryobi at 200 hours. I can't cut my hilly lawn without self - propel. The batteries never last as long as they should and they vary radically from one to another (I've had six of them).
@cheapme1850 Жыл бұрын
He actually said in the video the Ryobi is brushless. In fact I was in HD today and all of the higher end Ryobi are brushless.
@MONTOD Жыл бұрын
He's referring to the motor propelling the wheels specifically. The motor propelling the cutting blades is indeed brushless

The Ego batteries have a built-in fan to help cool the batteries may have been getting hot and shutting off to protect the circuit. Lowes had the ego mowers $100. off for memorial week.
@999benhonda Жыл бұрын
You can tell that neither is meant to mow grass like that because neither has a side discharge. Mulching with a tiny deck volume requires more power than they have. Most any $400 gas mower could have cut the entire field. These battery mowers are a great choice for retired ladies who can mow often, keeping the grass low.

Great review !!! I've watched many and yours is the only one that addresses the issue with trying to pull the mowers backwards (starts at 22:50) after releasing the self propelled lever. This is an issue with my current gas powered mower and it drives me crazy. That alone will swing me to the Ryobi. Thanks !

Dude, these mowers are not designed to cut 2 foot high grass in one pass. Cut at max height using the chute then cut again a bit lower then do a final cut.

Wait a minute, I have the Ego select cut xp with the included 56-volt 10 ah battery. And I literally cut down, 22" tall grass effortlessly, time after time without once tilting the mower over the tall grass to cut it. The motor never bogged down at no time, cutting that 22" tall grass and even 1" thick bushes, in fact, you can't Bogg down the motor, that's how power the motor is. So, I don't know why in your video, with that little grass, why it keeps cutting off. The Ego lawnmower is a beast with grass.
@MONTOD Жыл бұрын
I've got to say it's been a while since I made this, I don't remember it cutting off because the grass was too tall lol. but I do remember it happening when the battery was dying. Also you have the xp which has a more powerful motor, they are not the same
