Will this work on braided leather cord that’s stiff or do you have another method for braided leather cord?
@thecreativeitalian76117 күн бұрын
Hello Lauren,I have not tried this on braided cord. This is the only technique I am aware of. However, have you tested a piece of your cord? If you do, please let us know the outcome,as this will help us on here. 🌷😊

Smart! I have this beautiful elephant stamping that is hollow in the back and I need more weight to it. I thought of using resin, but this is way smarter because I can attach the jump ring simultaneously. I dread every time I have to attach the jump ring. One should think they had legs to walk with, because they always seem to move just as I am about to solder them on.
@thecreativeitalian7611Ай бұрын
I so relate to the jump ring moving.It has taken me a million tries. But,using a solder paste is less painful. Can't remember where I got it, but it's out there!

Beautiful! I can see this in a bigger version, in a red ribbon, hanging on the Christmas tree as well as a beautiful pendant. We have a tradition in my family that everyone, one time in their life, should gift all the others a Christmas ornament. One special ornament that will last for generations. When we decorate the Christmas tree, we have all these ornaments from people we love and cherish, some are dead and others still living, but they are with us in our hearts as we hang “their” ornament on the tree. I feel it is my time to gift the others with my special ornament, so they will know I am with them after I die, so maybe I should make this heart? ❤️

Gorgeous! So beautiful and that stamp was just perfect! Do you have any idea how to make solder drops/blobs/pearls and do you know why it does not work for me and other newbies? They just float out. As I see it, there are multiple factors that can make or break a drop: If I am not careful enough, but clash my soldering tip down hard, it will not create a drop. If I have a soldering iron that fluctuates in temperature or does not get warm enough, or is too hot, it can possibly make it hard to create a drop. My guess is that type of solder might have something to do with it? Can flux have something to do with it as well? Finally, can the temperature of the item I am adhering a drop to, be too hot? There are so many books and tutorials out there where they use soldering drops as a decorative element, but no one can tell us why it does not always work. I have a ceramic core adjustable soldering iron that can reach 500C, so it is more than hot enough. I can only access lead free or leaded solder wire with flux core, so I ended up with a solder wire identical to Silver gleem with 4% silver from AIM. So far I have not solved the problem but remembered reading that if temperature on the item you are soldering onto is too cold, you get solder blobs. So maybe I should start looking at that? Maybe my item is too hot? If you have any input to come with, it would be greatly appreciated!
@thecreativeitalian7611Ай бұрын
I use an iron @ 500 setting. The key to drops/blobs/pearls is a tiny bit of solder.. Experiment with a very small amount , work up to more solder on the iron until you get the size you want. You want the item to be cooled off for sure! Hope this helps. It worked for me doing it this way.👍😊
@sandcastle2069Ай бұрын
@@thecreativeitalian7611Thank you so much! I will try doing it at that temperature and as you suggested! I cross my fingers it will work!

It makes sense that the solder will not stick to patina, as patina is “oxidation in a bottle” and we know what happens to the soldering iron when the tip is oxidized, the solder will not hang on to the tip. ….but even if I already knew about oxidation, you bet I would sit there and scratch my head wondering why the solder wouldn’t stick. 😂 So thank you, for maybe now I will remember it! 😘

Do you have any tutorials on how to make a piece into a brooch? There is the one pin thingy one can use, or safety pins, but what is the best way to attach them? Soldering or glue? I could absolutely see this “A” as a brooch as well! It is beautiful!

Have you tried using nylon stockings as a buffer to get a good shine at the very end? Not many know this, but used nylon stockings are the absolute best to shine up those leather shoes, they are used to get a good window shine as well, you can sharpen your knives with nylon stockings if you want them razor sharp and of course polish your gold, silver and tin! Thank you for teaching me, it is a beautiful pendant, just like you!

It might not be sticking because some copper wire is coated, if you by raw copper wire & then tin it, it should stick & you won't need to use the emery board to rought it up, there is coated copper wire that is for wire wrapping only not soldering, that may be the case, I could be wrong to as I don't know what you've used , great channel😊
@thecreativeitalian76113 ай бұрын
You are exactly right on the coated wire. Solder will not stick to it, but will on non-coated copper wire. Thanks for sharing this, helpful for all of us.

I bought some 4 mm (white) bolo cord that was so stiff when i pulled some off the spool, that it retained its coiled state, like curly hair that will not relax into a straight style. I read about dampening it and using a hair dryer, which I was planning to try, but then I thought about using the new clothes steamer that I just got after our 20-year old one bit the dust. I just ran the steamer head along the stiff cord and I could feel it relaxing so quickly. It was easy-peasy and it worked like a charm. I softened 5 lengths of cord that I had cut in about 10 minutes, and made 5 "girly" bolo ties, with silver filigree settings for 5 light blue and white cameo style cabochons with a bas relief design with hummingbirds and lilies (or some similarly shaped flower). Really nice cooler look for the hotter weather. If you have a blow gun hair dryer, no doubt that will work, but if you have a clothes steamer, it might go a little faster. Oh, and you can glue the bolo tips on as soon as the cord is relaxed, too. It will stay softened. My black bolo cord is made by a different maker, (brand name Tacool) and it was so supple when I first used it, it was already relaxed, but both the black and white cords are now supple, tightly braided and don't come unraveled, and they have a smooth surface and a pliable feel. Just what you ought to look for in bolo cords, as well as a low luster.
