Is it something similar to an variable resistor? Quite different from camshaft switch controllers used on electric trains

Imagine if we had these running between small U.S. towns. But or state and federal government favored automobiles, so most cities are parking lots and highways.

It is not true that Czechoslovakia did not pay license fees for PCC. The cooperation between ČKD and Westinghouse, concluded even earlier during the "1st Czechoslovak Republic", also consisted in the mutual exchange of licenses between the two companies. According to my sources, $10,000 was paid for the first 25 trams produced, which means 50 complete chassis covered by the parts contract. The following chassis were already redesigned by ČKD-Tatra Smíchov's own design, which was no longer subject to the fee arrangement for each manufactured chassis according to the PCC model. Grandfather and great-grandfather worked at ČKD-Tatra, Prague-Smíchov, and ČKD-Sokolovo, Prague-Vysočany, and participated in the technical development of the T2 and T3 types. Greetings to all of you from Prague, Jan.

@@-ashai-4178 Welllllll... Actually, Muni did complete rebuilds on most of these and extremely extensive repairs and retrofits on literally all of them. None of them have the original paint, unfortunately. Some have been repainted in other agencies' colors as an homage to historic paint schemes. So not all the cars actually match their original agency. Muni seems to think that they are allowed to repaint the cars in a given color if they're the same model and if they already own a vehicle from that agency's fleet. Also, most of the workhorse PCCs that run regular routes got modern but period-looking ADA-compliant interiors and wheelchair equipment. They have a ton of completely historic ones too, with no modernizations at all, but those are rolled out sparingly to keep them in good condition. They only flood the streets with those on more special occasions. Muni's historic F line (and E line) is simultaneously a rolling streetcar museum _and_ a fully functional, code-compliant transit line. So they can't run all the historic cars all of the time. That's a lot more expensive than just running the modernized PPCs and a few of the older models for "spice".

Wouldn't it have been much more practical to design this vehicle with levers rather than pedals? I don't understand the use of the pedals, which are also complicated and tiring when the hands are completely free and with a single lever it is possible to have both the accelerator and the brake, most of the trams and I think almost all trains are made like this, with levers.
@faurl35h2 жыл бұрын
Don't forget that the PCC was designed in the mid-1930s, 20th century, and then the trams didn't have delicate joysticks to steer, only heavy actuators that manually moved the contacts with a crank. Therefore, the use of pedals to control was an innovative solution, which also tried to resemble the control of a car. I have a friend who is a tram driver, he drives both modern trams and older PCCs and admits that after a whole day of pressing the pedals, his legs hurt...
@nasinopuzzolente53962 жыл бұрын
@@faurl35h I understand....but the driving position for the reverse gear should have a manual control for the gas. There are several trams around the world built in the 1930's, 80% all have hand levers and controls. I find it very uncomfortable to just use the feet
@faurl35h2 жыл бұрын
@@nasinopuzzolente5396 There is no problem in upgrading the electrical system to use manual controls. Many retrofit PCCs have a manual control panel. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpPNoJiFlJKthrM

This line, running through the Oconomowoc Depot, once belonged to the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road), which went out of business in 1986.

History repeats itself for sure!!! I knew that some day these lines that were abandoned decades ago would make a comeback in one way or form or another. Look what happened out in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, and Sacramento in California! Light Rail systems galore; some running on the approximate alignment of their predisesors. San Francisco, Philadelphia, have retained most of their trolley lines. You still have the New Orleans trolleys that have looked the same for decades!

PART TWO If you Tube summer riot footage in this city, you will see parts where line should have been located. A similar situation in Memphis Tenn. A line does to useful local service along a mains street as a bidirectional loop, but goes to a river front line park,(including a monorail transfer to a park island connection!) But if done in opposite direction away from river would have usefully served built up and commercisl areas. At least Tampa Florida line, does serve a downtown area. The latter 2 go in both directions instead of this loop to nowhere.

It basically is a STREETCAR MUSEUM RIDE set on city streets. If expanded as planned to commercial center and main residential areas it would be useful. Unfortunately people living along the center median part can only go to industrial are or scenic run along shore.
