Is the GL2 card needed?

Im trying to print on my 500 but keep getting told theres an error by my laptop. Usb a usb b chord is connected both ends. Was wondering if you have any advice on what driver id need or if i just have to get a gl2 card?

By adding it to the network does that mean wired connection or wifi? I recently received the hp designjet 500. I am cleaning it out and thought it's 2023 I wonder if someone made it wifi compatible so I don't need to use the USB. Just wondering if this is the solution I am looking for.

I have bought recently a Designjet 4000 that's running on Firmware 5.5. I had only limited success trying to print from Windows 11 or even Windows 7. The drives shows the roll that is currently loaded as greyed out. I haven't tried it on Windows Xp but will give it a try on Mac os 10.7.5. From what I was told older HP Designjets run better on older Mac systems. I do plan to upgrade the HDD however, I first need to get a solid connection with the printer. Might get a 6 pin firewire both ways and try using that with my 2006 Mac Pro.

I put it in maybe 20 times with different sizes of paper but I always have the same problem. I had this problem a few months ago and changed the whole head and it worked for a few days and the same error again. Thank you, I appreciated your support.
