The original recording was better no doubt, IMHO it is a bit slow here, and Phill Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford are all missing along with an abysmally poor recording. Other than that.......

I think Gary Moore has a much better feel. Jimmy Pages says Elliott Randall on Reelin' in the Years is best and many guitarists think Larry Carleton on Kid Charlemagne is it. I haven't mentioned any contemporary shredders. This is at best okay.
@narlus6 ай бұрын
well, i must admit ignorance of Gary Moore so i will start addressing that. I did add in the "prog rock" adjective and I don't think anyone would put Steely Dan in that bucket. notes per second can be physically impressive but never connects with me.

I like it, Narius, but I'm more affected by Steve's guitar in "Everyday" from *Spectral Mornings.* I'd also suggest Andy Latimer's playing on "Ice" from Camel's *I Can See Your House from Here* or the title track from their *Stationary Traveler* album.

so it's been a couple of months since i posted this clip, the night of seeing him play. it's gotten some traffic. i guess maybe some people thought the title was clickbait but i truly feel like this solo has so much emotion and power behind it, and looking at the comments a fair number of people agree. The others who don't like it? sure, that's fine. to each their own. however, among all the naysayers no one ever proposed what they thought their favorite prog solo is. i guess it's a lot easier to just fling mud than have a conversation.

Hello from u.k. I’m 66 now one of my first gigs was genesis Selling england tour early 70s Liverpool empire. Blew me away, also check out Anthony Philips You probably have. Bunch of us talking in work about guitarists, lads I worked with took music very serious. All the big names were thrown in the pot, I live Half hour drive from Liverpool and Manchester. Over the decades I’ve seen em all when they came around. One of us said, the best guitarist I’ve ever seen was Steve Hackett! He said he saw him do a solo acoustic set, in a Small venue on Merseyside. And was close to him when he played. My mate said he was staggering, blew him away! Skill off the scale! No one could argue, we all have our faves. I prefer his acoustic stuff myself, but that’s Just my choice. Take care, our numbers for people With taste are shortening!

It is a nice solo but the title is indeed clickbait in my opinion. I'm a forgive and forget type of guy however so I won't be turning you in to the authorities for this egregious lack of judgement on your part that wasted 1 minute and 40 seconds of my life 😃
@narlus7 ай бұрын
@@rszymanskiRSB i would think that on highly subjective topics such as music, when using the term 'best' one would understand that it's 100% opinion. there is no objective way to define what best is. yet the wreckage of twisted panties is vast and wide.

@@rszymanskiRSBI disagree, it's one of the best solos I've ever heard. So he's not the only one who thinks it. Give me this over Eruption by Van Halen any day, self indulgent in my opinion. But each to their own and all that.

As click bait, the title was more impressive than the actual guitar solo. It’s Steve Hackett so he’s earned his stripes but this solo relies on multiple foot pedals and without them it would be quite ordinary.
