I saw Tony perform at the Greasy Eagle in Reno back in the early 70s. In those earlier years he really put on an energetic show! I remember that smoke filled casino room...the stage was right by entrance, the room was full of slot machines and had a very small bar, maybe 3 foot wide. The stage wasn't much bigger.

Shows you how easy it is for charlatans to command a mass hysteria, such as Joan Osteen.

It goes to show that any horrendous voice that sings out of key can get applause with the right announcer and intro. 😂

I assume Andy added the sunglasses later to make it a better disguise, as it’s clearly him here. With the sunglasses, Bob Zmuda and Andy could switch “performing” the character. I think Andy’s brother played Clifton too on occasion.

0:34. LOL. I love how when Dinah announces Tony, Charles Nelson Reilly earnestly applauds and says, "Wondah-ful," like Tony's going to come out sing some tender, lovely song. I think this is the show where "Tony" throws eggs at Dinah and gets barred from the show during a cooking demonstration.

It was probably written in his contract to play this without sunglasses so the audience can see it's the guy from the hit TV show Taxi (as in "recognize him yet?"), otherwise this largely elderly crowd -- and likely TV audience as well, would've been baffled and too uncomfortable. No way would've a producer of daytime TV have allowed this otherwise. Charles Nelson Reilly looks totally confused lol.

He is right that everything is distorted & that this is the proper way to start looking at something to control for bias in yourself algorithmically consciously scientifically and all communications is formal & so in all formal & formalized contractual permissions consequence based communications 2:00 everything is out of whack & distorted like this but its ideal to know that observe that witness carefully recordss it with others in helpful ways and ways that do not make us sicker than we already are or mentally ill instead of pretending everything is 'balanced' that I LETHAL but now & because of him he's right we have proved him right & the ranking & scales are all there you have free will you pre-ordain yourself So it is free too It is free to be distorted too

I think that's the difference between Kaufman and Zmuda's Clifton. Zmuda's was clearly a character, while Kaufman is so close to the lounge singer vibe that it could have been a real person.
