I like how real and humble Tom is. I dont know about Patrick, he seems cagey and cleverly guarded.

Tom talks about their trip to Russia, well I hope it was after 1991, when they tore down the wall of oppression and dictatorship. How did yall not feel it over there?

At 16:32, Tom is saying that the best songs just write themselves. But I prefer songs that musician artists really do seem to mean, in a profound and powerful way, like maybe Sammy Hagar, (not to name drop), but just saying, because you can tell that he really means what he's singing. Like he's talking from experience.

I bet that John would be interesting to talk to, he sounds intelligent and intellectual, down to earth, very plain simple and easy speech. I miss that, because people now just dont seem to care enough nowadays.

I love it how John is old fashioned; he says that he's moved. That is so dear to me, when someone still adheres to the old style thinking, because that's how I was raised. I grew up around people who lived during the depression days, so I still have those memories and mentality.

Its surprising to hear John mentioning about all these old classic singing Greats, when he looks so young, like how would he know about them? And when he said, "there's something to be said about that", well I havent heard that saying since '70's type of talk. 😊

I am from UK but lived in the US for a while in the 70s and loved the Doobies then and they are even better now. But for all the focus on Tom and Pat, John McFee is the standout for me. He is an incredible musician.

The Doobie Brothers is actually 4 bands in one. Outdoorsy Pat Simmons, Tom The Workingman Johnston, Michael The Dreamer, McFee The Aesthete. In the last 10 years when we have seen all four of them live, there have been so many times one or the other has joined a rendition that was was originally composed without them. The Doobies' signature is the space their compositions have for an entire Horns and Reeds section - you could add a Big Band and it would still feel as if there's enough room left for a full orchestra. McFee in this maybe the only popular guitarist who can rock and roll and swing with all this.

Great interview questions and answers to give us fans some insight! Especially the end of the discussion where Joel says that they've control over what they do and they're more interested in writing about the world events and what affects us than creating songs that are about the cosmos ...or some sugar on top of sugar! Hope you got to the Memorial Tour shows this year, Cris. Me? 3 times Memorial! Twice on their 1st tour in 2022! I'm addicted, though. Thank God they're finally touring NA! The people do not know what they're missing here... so they don't charge enough! The venues are intimate. FANS: Go VIP!! They earn it! They play hard for us! Expect Joel to stare at you while performing ...there just ain't nothin' like it in the world to have this man singing these songs.. directly to YOU! You'll be high the rest of the night! So, BUY THEIR MERCH, FANS! BUY MERCH!!! Support Soen so they can keep creating! God Bless You Cris for snagging this interview! Nice channel! Subscribed! And thanks for your time, Joel! I know it's hard to talk on tour to save your voice, so this was a treat to listen to and get a glimpse of your beautiful home! Cigars, eh? You exude class, head to toe. ❤ Soen, please keep your foot on the gas pedal. The World needs your messages! NOW!

Speaking of the Stones and opening acts...it was either '69 or '70 that the Stones played in Ft. Collins Colorado at a relatively small college basketball arena and the opening act was some guy that most of the audience had never heard of at the time...B.B. King, LOL.

To maintain the skills that John and the other musicians in the Doobies have at their ages takes a huge amount of self-discipline and work, including to keep the body, hands, voice and brain in condition to play the music, not to mention of course their huge talent.
