Rockfall is that demon from hell you think never happens to you until it does. Once had a rappell line jam gave it several good yanks then it came loose and brought a big ol rock right smack dab onto my brand new Mountain Safety Research helmet. - Symmetry Spire, GTNP, climbing second with the legendary Richie Romano.Incidentally, yesterday I got off route hiking in the Sierra foothills and ended up belaying my trusty dog Lillhammer through a few sketchy spots. Fortunately she was in a full harness. This vid and others like it have convinced me to carry dog-size wire splints and an evac sling in case I ever have to carry her out and a short 8 mm for longer belays and lowering her. Yeah the Grand is a real mountain and she does draw blood when the mood suits the gods.
