That perfect 1935 recording is of Act 1 only, so no Brunnhilde and no Hojotojo in it. But Lotte Lehmann is the best Sieglinde of all times, Lauritz Melchior the best Siegmund ever. And they were even better live, in an American performance 5 years later :)

so you have never heard a recording of 1935 with bruno walter (conductor)... gwyneth jones is PURE tremolo - and it got worse and worse...

if I could have it my way, the entire soundtrack to Game of Thrones would be Wagner instrumental music; namely act 2 prelude.

Only Jones and Nilsson could hit those Bs and Cs with such accuracy and fearlessness. There have been many other fine Brunnhildes, but Jones is so heroic in the role. Her tone is a bit unsteady, as always, but she could knock any Wagner role out of the park.

What spectacular Wagner singers there used to be! Flagstad, Nilsson, Jones.....nothing even remotely comparable can be heard today. Sure Jones has had a bit o a flabby vibrato now and then but what a fantastic singer and what an actress!

I don't know of anyone who hits those "Hojotoho" octave jumps as well as Gwyneth does here.

My favorite motet from Johann Sebastian Bach. I find the "Der saure Weg ..." with its diminished 7th to be an superb example of Bach's genius of emotions in music.
