4 reactors is a drop in the bucket. Concept to producing power 15+ years per plant. No standardized plug and play well tested dseigns. Electricity alone we're at 17 terrawatts. Need much more for electrification.

The "Average" time to completion for a nuclear plant IS 8 years and getting lower.

@@buildmotosykletist1987 *NO IT IS NOT* One of the most important things BOTH the pro-nuclear and anti-nuclear lobbies MUST STOP DOING is speaking BULLSHlT like the time taken to build nuclear. Both sides need to stop fighting each other. Nuclear is best for base load and renewables are best for load following and peaking. *TOGETHER* they make a solution. All the fighting is just the fossil fuel people causing more and more delays. Hinkley Point C with 2 x EPR 2s has had its construction schedule go from 10 to 12 years to build and commission. That's still better than the first 2 EPR 2s in France and Finland. The AP 1000s like those built at Vogtle took 9 years to build and commission. The 4 x AP1000s in China took 9 years took 9 years to build and commission. The South Korean APR 1400s built in Barakah took 9 years to built and commission. YES I know the Japanese reactors can be built in 4 years and CANDUs are also quicker, but who wants a Japanese reactor after Fukushima and the Canadian government rejected the Advanced CANDU but I don;t think that's relevant either. Sorry but I am an engineer and somethings just take the time they take to build NO MATTER who builds them or where they build them. That doesn't mean we shouldn't go nuclear because on the positive side we KNOW with reliability how long it will take. RELIABLE CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULES are incredibly important and now they are reliable that's a very serious positive for nuclear.

Like the man said, charter schools have private boards. So, taxpayer dollars are sent to schools with private boards, which means taxpayers cannot hold the private boards accountable for how their tax dollars are used.

It is fraud to forge your address to make it appear you live one place rather than another. And, she was gaining benefit of the education in that other district without actually paying into that system. She could legally petition to send her child to a district other than the one she lives in, but she didn't; she chose to forge her address.

It treads into dangerous territory to treat taxpayer money as a "scholarship". What board decides this, what are the checks and balances, what kind of accountability and meaningful oversight is in place? Or, does this end up disengaging taxpayers from their taxdollars and oversight and accountability?

Students are not widgets, but we do need some cohesion in our education to be the United States of America and to aim for the spirit of E. pluribus unum. When people have a broad, classical education that features the Great Works and Great Ideas, a reasoned balance of individual-oriented versus group education should emerge. Our nation tried to balance the dynamic of the individual and the whole, our education should seek the same.

What can people do if their local school district isn't as good as it could be? They could try to find where the problems are and work to solve them. Attend board meetings, review curricula, resources, disciplinary measures, size of classrooms or size of schools in general (are they too large?), review the budget, ask questions, volunteer to help, maybe even run for the school board, read good books**. **Two good books to start with: Mortimer Adler's The Paideia Proposal. Neil Postman's The End of Education.

People aren't "assigned" to the local public school. They chose to live in that district. Everyone's tax dollars in that district are pooled to support the education of the children who live there. The people in the district elect from amongst themselves representatives to serve on school boards to direct the education and needs of the district. The people can then review the agendas, budgets, curricula and resources (etc), attend board meetings, and talk to their elected representatives about all these things and what changes or improvements may need to happen. If people in a given district wish to homeschool or send their children to a private school, they can with their own money or scholarships.

The main purpose of education is NOT to prepare people "for the workforce". It is to prepare us to be a free people and to shoulder the responsibilities of self-governance in our constitutional republic. Thomas Jefferson and many other Founders knew a broad education of the citizenry was necessary for the success of the republic.

School choice means unelected parents take their neighbors' tax dollars to use at schools with selected, not elected, boards. This means taxpayers cannot really maintain oversight of or hold anyone accountable for the use of their tax dollars, the curricula, resources, or educational outcomes. This is taxation without representation.
