Hi Jayanta. Sorry for the VERY late reply but due to illness I haven't been able to play or make videos for about 8 months. Hello, have you tried also the Line6 g30? For the best sound it should be better with a cable so wireless seems more suitable for gigs, do you agree ?
@ChaStewFiddle5 жыл бұрын
Hi Frederic. Thanks for the comment. I haven't tried the G30. Here in Cambodia my choice of gear is very limited and I was lucky to find a G10 after trying some terrible (and cheap) systems from China, as you can see in the video. As for using a cable - I bought a high quality one but, to be honest, the freedom the wireless gives me has seduced me into using it ALL the time, even when I practice at home. My old ears can't hear any difference between the cable and wireless but maybe yours can. Good luck with your music!

Good review ! Do you use any preamp with the ACUS amp? any pedal chain?
@ChaStewFiddle5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Frederic - hope the review was helpful. I don't use any "extras" with the ACUS. My Yamaha YEV-104 is passive, so no preamp built in, and I'm aiming to get as "pure" a sound as I can so I have no pedals (yet). I haven't used the ACUS much, to be honest, as it's been in the UK (where I am now) but I do most of my playing in Asia. I'll be going back there in a couple of months and will be taking the ACUS with me so I'll be able to do a follow up in a few months.

@@ChaStewFiddle which cables do you recommend for the best sound?
@ChaStewFiddle5 жыл бұрын
Hi again Frederic. I did buy some high quality (guaranteed for life!!) cables in Cambodia; PLANET WAVE is the brand. I must say that I rarely use them, just carry them around as back-up when I'm gigging just in case the G10 lets me down. But I would definitely say that cheap cables are a false economy. Buy the best you can afford.

Hello! I have an active pick up on my yamaha silent violin (sv200 i think), will this wireless system work? I just tried the boss WL-50 which is amazing, but there is a high pitched sound that comes out of the amp.. I tried it with my passive acoustic violin pick up and my electric guitar and no noise.. Only on my electric violin with active pick up..
@ChaStewFiddle5 жыл бұрын
Hi Loren. This is not recommended for active pick-ups. In fact the Electric Violin Shop (North Carolina) says this on their site: "The only caveat with the G10T (there's always a catch!) is that you may experience some degree of interference when you use it with active instruments (instruments with onboard, battery-powered preamps). Specifically, we've found that it doesn't play well with the Yamaha SV-200 violin"

Thanks for the tutorial. Just a bit off topic, your Yamaha Yev bridge was it stock standard height setting (out of the Yamaha factory) or did your retailer have to set by a luthier. Reason I am asking, some have reported that the height for them was not right. Others say luthiers can adjust it, others say no adjustment possible. Then there are the NS Wave Violins, where the user can adjust it via an adjustment screw, so at the moment leaning more towards the NS violin.
@ChaStewFiddle5 жыл бұрын
Hi Norman. Apologies for the very late reply. Until I retire in 6 months I sometimes get stuck in work mode! When I got the Yamaha I used it straight out of the box and it was playable. I've heard other people say that their YEVs were not. I got it from the Electric Violin Shop in North Carolina and they set up each violin before they deliver. However, last year I did take it to a violin repair shop and had the bridge reshaped a little, which lowered the action and made it even easier to play. I'd definitely recommend having it checked if you buy one.

Hello, I am a violin player. I viewed your video. You seemed quite satisfied with this product. I have the “Line 6 Relay G10” and I’ve been using it when I go and play in the studio with my friends. But, my problem with this product is that I can’t hear myself when I’m playing, there seems to be no power when I’m playing. I put the sound all the way up and it still isn’t as loud as I would like it to be. I am playing music at a big venue this weekend, and I am not sure if I should keep it or not. Any suggestions or recommendations? When I play in the house, I am happy with it but when I am playing in the studio, I am not satisfied. I am not sure if I should keep it or not.

Hi Mario - sorry for the outrageously late reply :-( I have only used this with my Yamaha YEV and I've had no problem with it, either playing directly through the PA (most of the time) or through my ACUS amp. @ChaStewFiddle6 жыл бұрын
Thanks John. The chin rest I have is just a standard one but, coincidentally, I've been looking into high chin rests and other attachments that would allow me to discard the shoulder rest - which is a real nuisance. They certainly exist but are not so easy to find. A standard rest is about 25mm high but you can get up to 40mm. I'm going to try to get one and you can be sure I'll do a review if I do. You may also want to look at the Kreddle (www.kreddle.com) or the gel pads you can get to stick on your existing rest (search for violin chin rest gel).

Hi ! Is there any practical difference or dificulty playing with 5 instead or 4 strings ? It looks a bit more bulky i think ... which one would you recommend ? I play rock pop and impro with a yamaha silent violin already but this one looks great and thinking of buying it ? Thanks !
@ChaStewFiddle6 жыл бұрын
Hi. I can't really answer this as I've never played a five-string. I find four quite hard enough! The main difficulty is probably with the bowing as he strings on the bridge would tend to be "shallower" so it would be harder to not catch adjacent strings. If there are any five-string players out there please let us know :-) (Sorry for late reply but I've just flown from Asia to Europe).

@PhilipDViolin6 жыл бұрын
hi I just received my Yamaha Yev 4 string violin ! thanks for the comments ? i do have a question and concern. the bridge of my violin seems higher than the one of my older Yamaha SV100 violin, and that makes that the chords are higher in the higher positions and more dificult to play. i really feel the difference with my older SV100 electric violin. Did you experience the same with the bridge of your Yamaha Yev violin ? Also the lower G sounds much higher volume than the other strings, amplified or not ... Any suggestions or ideas, same experiences ? Thank you ! Philippe
@ChaStewFiddle6 жыл бұрын
Hi Philippe. Sorry but I'm in Europe at the moment moving around a lot (without my YEV) so I can't check string heights etc. I got mine from the Electric Violin Shop in N. Carolina USA and they set up each instrument before sending it out. I'm not sure if that is the case with yours. I don't have an issue with string height - I'm not too fond of a 'featherlight' touch anyway - I like a bit of resistance :-) The G string on the YEV is definitely the weakest of the four in terms of tone. It's impossible to get the same 'crunch' that you can get with an acoustic fiddle and the volume may be a tad higher but I compensate for this using the EQ in my effects box/interface. It would certainly be possible to adjust the bridge height and any competent violin repairer/dealer could do it. Good luck with it and I'll do a bit more experimentation when I get back to the UK.
