It's interesting where he talks about producing small cars because I love cars. I've read Porsche started making the Boxster they made a loss on every unit but managed/engineered it to a profit within a year. However I can think of companies that take a very different approach like BMWs rebooted Mini which they engineered to be so desirable that people where flipping their spot in the order queue for more than they paid. It's not clear to me if either is the clear and singular path to success. Do you have any thoughts? 😀

Dr. Dan Jones pointed out what is so fundamental to lean: “Only if the thinking changes will those tools, those techniques, those perspectives, generate the results that lean promises.” Lean thinking will achieve Lean results, that traditional thinking will never achieve.

The power of ‘Lean’ has been reduced to cost saving projects and certified black belts [very low value as compared to a real lean business strategy]. Lean still offers the most competitive advantage for any company and any type of business that can implement it [correctly]. Lean is a business strategy, not a manufacturing tactic, and not a cost reduction program. This video tells it all...a great presentation from Art Byrne, former CEO of Wiremold.

A very good point of this talk is that it is always better to build LEAN culture based on strong cornerstones. Constituted on tangible outcomes linked with KPIs and KAIZENs affecting people than on culture based on high-level talks around the table which are cheap but in a long run could turn into a disaster.

The price of your product was historically set by the company to achieve profit level..That has changed the market now dictates your selling price. the only way to increase your profit margin is to reduce your costs to reach your profit level.

I would like to meet this man one day. I love this methology in management. That was always my question. How do you get them to do what you need them to do. I want to have our company be the best in all areas both the internal affairs and for customer base. If you play golf John I'd be glad to go have a round with you.
