great interview. I think it's sad how people are expected to uproute their lives for a job - so much work can be completed remotely, it seems senseless. Plus, it kind of forces you to be a part of the work culture 24/7 and then just obsorbs everything you are 0_0 - very intense!
@1on1artschool28 күн бұрын
I guess that's largely true. I find the best time to do it - if ever - is when you're young and less settled. It definitely takes the kind of person who isn't afraid of massive change and who is willing to make that specific sacrifice. Thanks for stopping by Karlee! :)
@KarleeHankin28 күн бұрын
@@1on1artschool Yeah :/ My home and my family mean a lot, and I'm sure they do to lot of poeple - those sorts of personal supports and structures should be in place particularly for younger people I feel, when beginning a career that intense. I'm so sure burn out would be a little less rampant if it wasnt so all encompassing. Thanks for commenting on my video too, that's very kind ^_^
@1on1artschool28 күн бұрын
@@KarleeHankin An interesting thought. It generally does take a remarkable support network to offer support. In the years I've been helping other artists I'd say I've seen a general improvement in this. The first few generations got it hardest but now we're in around 5th generation and people know more. Still far from ideal thouugh.

Amazing direct video on how to design from organic forms-do you have any tips on studying mechanical forms? Like did you also bring vehicles into pureref for reference or understand the general forms from experience of drawing them a billion times? Thank you so much!
@1on1artschool29 күн бұрын
Hey Kiara! Thanks for stopping by and leaving me such a lovely comment. Mechanical forms can only be faked for so long. Truly the best way to understand them is by studying industrial design drawing techniques and then later combining them with design. I have an entire 3 month module dedicated to this for my mentees for this very reason: it's just complex... until you get it! :) Hope that helps!

I don't think censoring negativity is the way to go. I don't know about the game industry which I assume you work in but a lot of art related industries aren't that great and I think people should know that and then pursue art if the trade off is fine for them

@@osku388 100% agree about no censorship. People SHOULD speak freely, but at the same time I do think it's worth strong caveats and a balanced view.

I would say 75% pinterest, and 25% a mix between pexels and google. It's a real skill to find the right images with the right appeal and lighting. Keep in mind this technique only works well for grounded projects. The moment you step into scifi you're in trouble and need other approaches. ;)

Wish I could claim it as my own idea but its a super fast way to establish your values. Just gotta be careful that the blur doesn't break the vibrancy of colors, it always needs a boost and most photos are mad dull compared to the paintings we need. Thanks for the comment!

Good to know that Rob is doing well. I came across Rob at an art exhibition once in Chiba. I was brown away by his style and loved it so much for years. and... believe it or not, I started on illustration as well! At that time, I had no idea that I will do that. Can't believe that he's in NZ now. One of my fav places to be. Great to hear about his journey to where he is now. Haha... plz don't say his old works are bad...
