This brought back many memories. I used to visit Brick Lane market every week back in the 80's. I remember an old Harmonica player, who might well have been the Chap in the video (he played very badly, I couldn't discern any tune at all, but he must have made money at it, or he wouldn't have gone :-)). I also brought my first Meerschaum pipe from an ancient old gentleman, dressed in rags. Although he looked like a Tramp, he had an old, battered, suitcase, full of pristine boxed Meerschaum pipes! I think he must've been a Tabacconist in his younger days, and had now fallen into poverty. I wished I'd had the money to buy them all off him, and I never saw him again after that day. I still have that pipe, and it's the best smoking pipe in my collection.

Amazingly enough I remember seeing the Sex Talk show on this video when it was aired many years ago....I found Atter's Channel after doing a search because I heard him on a podcast, and here I am reliving the not so comfortable memories of my late teens. Blimey!

It's like down town Los Angeles , California ; parts have been "gentrified " , but a few blocks away it can get pretty grim ...

Really good posting, I can spot lots of familiar faces hear, others who view this may be surprised to know that I still see some of the people in this film down cheshire street and club row market every SUNDAY, yes things may have changed (find me somewhere that has not) but the market certainly has not been swept away, and I am pleased to say neither have many of the old regulars who still attend EVERY SUNDAY. thanks for sharing.

Heavens above is that really 1987? I remember going down Brick Lane and seeing the utter rubbish people were attempting to sell. Thoroughly depressing! And now all that has been swept away, gentrification has made the area a hipsters paradise... Not so sure that is such a bad thing! A real picture of a bygone age Atters.
