Hard to hear the voice-over at the outset because of the music. And sorry .... why is owner feeding the pup one treat after another? To me, it is not the quantity of food-reward that they need ... it is the quality ... so just one food-treat, only when it's absolutely necessary to bring about an associative meaning ... you did something specifically good there so you get ONE small food-treat .... but ALWAYS, if possible, the main reward is the eye-contact you give them and the feeling of fondness between the two of you. To me, it's absolutely the best thing to only give food as a reward when absolutely necessary, and to keep food out of it, if you possibly can. To try our very best to find other ways of rewarding ... a lovely look where eyes meet and meaning is conveyed, or pup is called over and brought to stillness while being told they have been good, or a toy is introduced that isn't constantly available .... stuff like this, if & when possible. This trainer isn't committing the crime I'm afraid I tend to associate with American dog-owners (NB - not ALL American dog-owners) ... those hideous videos where dogs are being taken for hot dogs, burgers, cream desserts etc... and this is being sold as a fabulous thing to do with a small creature who stands to have its health utterly ruined from the inside by its so-called carer. I'm having a rant this morning even though I've had my caffeine 😄 ... criticism of those who regularly and massively overdose their dogs on treats that are emphatically not good for the dog is not just reserved for owners from the US, but all over the place. But particularly (I think) US dog-owners and US educators about dogs, please do something, just something, to begin reversing this trend that is so damaging ... damaging to the dog but worse still, damaging for dogs all around the world when you put out video footage of over-indulging dogs to "educate" others to do the same. I thinknypu know, US folk, that you wield tremendous influence across the globe in most things ... and I'm sure you'll agree that those who have that power need to exercise it really judiciously. This owner is way way more moderate .. just that at the outset of the video, seems to feed one treat after the next in rapid succession; which seems to run counter to what she's saying later on in the video.

Amazingly, some people don't understand this but no one doubts that humans learn to walk on instinct. You don't need to teach a baby how to walk, they will figure it out on instinct because we have adapted that instinct for a very long time. And with working dogs, we have made sure that the rights instincts have been developed for many generations.

I have never done agility but I have been taking my border collie x puppy to a "play" session where you get to play with some agility equipment. My puppy doesn't like to put her back feet on the A frame, ramp or see-saw. How can I build confidence for these things?

Start by teaching a back up and then let her back her feet onto other things first. Check my early videos of Spam for info on that.

Very nice. My male BC Einstein is more chaser, so I waited until he was one year to show him to be calm around sheep. He also worked in Reindeer in Finland.

is it the same if you work with wingless jumps? im having a problem where they go around the pole and take the jump from the back side, they do come to my hand, but then keep going around the jump making a loop.

Don't be! Puppies need to use their bodies and develop muscles and bones. Just like you wouldn't tell your kid to not move too much, puppies need movement too.

I love this so much. When I got my newest BC girl, I immediately signed her up for an instinct test, and by the time our appointment came up, Covid hit and everywhere shut down by local order. We're in Los Angeles, and as you can imagine, there aren't many sheep herding options in L.A. Then, during shutdown, the main/best facility moved to the other side of the country. My girl is 2.5yrs now, and I still yearn to get her with sheep, and I know she would love it. Thank you for sharing Spam with us!

we adopted a border collie mix…supposedly mixed with GSP, but my dog looks exactly like this dog. She’s 6 months old and already amazes me. She also is more toy drive, specifically a ball for fetch. She goes on point with the ball, i’ve taught her walk slowly towards it, then she has to hold over it to wait for a release to take it. The other day i said go get the orange ball…and she returned with the orange ball, it was among 6 other balls, all different colors….👏🏻
