So many arias from Bach’s sacred cantatas could work as instrumental pieces. I like them as they are, but the texts don’t really appeal to many people, and the music deserves to be performed and listened to - and isn’t really, not that often.

Works well despite the text being absent. I think that a lot of the more obscure arias as well as choral pieces from the cantatas would be effective as instrumental pieces: I like the texts myself, even it they don’t always fit my Catholic theology, but to a lot of potential listeners as well as performers they aren’t interesting, even though the music is.
