I am adopted so I did a DNA test. Now, I am proud to say that I am also a direct descendant of Peregrine White and several other esteemed ancestors. Sir Lord William Smith and Suzanne Ann Anna White Winslow Fuller are my great grandparents (14 generations removed). That would make Peregrine my 13th (removed) grandfather. At least that’s what Ancestry test revealed. Hello cousins!

Cahokia site near St. Louis was surrounded by a wood palisade and that predates Plymouth by hundreds of years.
@hystoryan2 ай бұрын
Europe in the dark ages used palisades as well, so I feel like it was a pretty universal way to construct easy walls in many cultures.

Ezra Perry had 4 sons and they had 4 areas! Spreading out, as dont see comment and thought i left, again sounds similar but if sadly that one guy didnt destroy or move the house to Connecticut as wants, if there maybe can ask town, id Love to know if ok, probably will call historical society or those close to house as my grandmother spent much time there, and article or pdf says Betsy Hamblen wrote a book about it which id like to read now as well. Wished house stayed in fam, maybe one day! If there, but id say bug them if so for 9 sandwhich perry ellis keene historic still, home over 300 years possibly said to be oldest as still there, maybe as now need to know!! Thank you so much, they mention where in England they came from others unsure as i am a mixed mut! But love hearing family history and both sides seems woman deff had a louder mouth at such times than would imagine and that can be womans story or her- story I'd like to say! But thats diff yet interesting the first names that trickle down as well as the migration has seemed ancestral lands traversed these days as maine, then Connecticut (NJ) back to N.Y.! Yet miss that house passionately

I need to re read an article which made me search for info and feel as mostly listening and watch. If so, seems so similar I'll guide you to the fam info I have as yes they had a connecting building part of defense snd underground connected. 4 housrs in all, again ill share but PERRY-ELLIS-KEENE HOUSE Or Bergese. 9 sandwich road 1 or more house's were moved. Beautiful beehive woodstove floor to roof, defense one not nicest of home style..fireplace may be remnants of mortar ish? But the 2 connected I think was built in as again a defense type style. And floor or basement was huge and Storage! Love to hear and share more!

Its interesting how some of the oldest stones ,slate, are in such good condition. We went to the old Carver cemetary and almost all the old slate stones were severely degraded. They had delaminated,the layers in the slate had separated. My wife has 9 Pilgrim ancestors none of whom have graves in Plymouth. Most had moved on . I think the Billingtons and Eaton might have died there.

I have read that death verse on a few of the very old graves I’ve visited in Massachusetts one that I know very well is in Greenville Baptist Cemetery in Rochdale/Leicester MA. I was always fond of the old fashioned graves of that party cemetery as it’s at the church that my family Attended. Many memories of being a child after church. I don't recall seeing a foot stone. What is the reason for a foot stone.
@plymouthantiquariansociety3 жыл бұрын
The footstone marks the foot of the grave, indicating the boundary of the burial. It is usually much smaller than the headstone and may include an inscription (often the initials of the person interred there). Many footstones in older graveyards have been removed or relocated, sometimes to make maintenance of the site easier.
