Happy as a German to hear an English version I understand.

The first time I saw his version I wasn't really a fan of it, but now, oh boy, I love how he genuinely seems to have lost his mind lol it's awesome!

Worst Sweeney Todd actor by far. Staunton is alright I guess.

I never would have Recognised Michael Ball !!
@loridavis18582 ай бұрын
I saw it first at Chichester and was mid center of the Stalls, so got the full impact of the menacing stare down. But I was also outside the theatre when Michael came in that day with his pup on tow. I asked if I could help as he was signing and taking pics for people (we had met before). He handed me the leash and I walked behind him to the stage door. He is a total mensch. Amazing actor, singer, and just a kind person.

I think I still prefer the visuals of the Depp version, but Michael Ball’s singing is objectively more emotive and you can really HEAR Todd’s descent into madness and depravity

I would've LOVED to see Michael Ball perform it - his choreography is wonderfully precise. "Epiphany" is definitely a whopper... my performance of it was exhausting! kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zni4e36mjsueeLs

Whoa, that hit like a train. With other pairings I've seen they tend to keep this song whimsical and tongue-in-cheek. Playing it straight and downright psychopathic (letting the wordplays do its own magic) makes this performance sound more on the unnerving side.

If I had a nickle for every time a well know actress from the Harry Potter franchise played Mrs. Lovette in a notable production of Sweeny Todd, I'd have three nickles, which isn't a lot but its weird that it happened three times.
@christinemartin13523 ай бұрын
Both Bellatrix and Delores Umbridge got to be Mrs. Lovett? Helena Bonham Carter slayed Mrs. Lovett but Imelda Staunton is not bad either. I never knew she could sing!

Only the best performance from Umbridge herself! If ANYONE can play a psychopathic murderer it's Imelda Staunton

Can't believe I'm just finding this version. I'll always be a of the original Lansbury and Hearn, but this does give a whole new meaning to the "Potter" pie.

why does the audio sound too clean like a studio recording, it feels disjointed with the visuals, it's unsettling in a bad way

Saw the original West End show back in 1980 with Dennis Quilley and Sheila Hancock. I was absolutely blown away by it. But I think it only ran for a few months. British audiences weren’t ready for the very dark undertones which was revolutionary for musical theatre at the time. I’ve never seen this performance before and I’m super impressed with both Ball and Staunton. Bravo!!!

Typically the more you perform with a show the better your breath control is and my guess is they rehearsed this show for months

Me when I can't read the first line of the description, it's a press kit sample. Meant for quick media stuff, it's the booth recording overlayed with the stage shoot for cleanliness.
