No regard to climate change/ potentially more droughts, and sea level rise either. In a sane(r) world, it would be "lets not mine until we can prove there's no overly detrimental environmental impacts", not assume the best (least impact), until proven otherwise. Solid talk/ lecture

@WWALSwatershed Speaking in broad strokes, my fight isn't with northeast FL/ barely ever visited there. If it was in the Suwannee watershed/ corridor, perhaps completely different story for me. So anybody feel free to take & use those ideas

Ibis chick's are dark, not white. That mama looks like a heron, although from phone it's hard to tell, but beak doesn't look long enough or "bent" enough for an Ibis.

Thanks for posting this! I've often wondered what it looked like but never got a chance to go down Melon road before it was gated. It used to be open till a few years ago and was sadly closed to public access. Google maps even still has images of it on streetview from the original surveys back in the day. Fun fact: the eastern continental divide runs roughly along nearby GA 215 here.

Thank you Tom for allowing this to be recorded. I was disappointed this aired while I was at work and was afraid I would miss out. As a teenager, I walked across the river at Madison Blue on the rocks and had no clue they were placed by early people! Thanks John for hosting and posting. I learned a lot tonight about a river that has been in my blood for many years.

Near my family farm.. My wife and I recently purchased property bordered by the Okapilco. I have a trail camera photo of a wave coming through our property by the creek. It is amazing to see the water backup and rise so quickly.

Wow, that doesn't look like much of a source. My part of the Alapaha is in Lanier Co., Full blown River by that point. Thanks for sharing I would have never guessed. How fitting I'm the 229th viewer for anyone that doesn't know that's the area code where this River resides.

Rivers have lots of sources. Basically headwaters are just the furthest upstream point of the main arterial stream, but are by no means the sole origin point, as rivers can/ usually get lots of additional flow from other creeks &/or rivers

I have reached out to Anna Prizzia regarding a devastating experience of gender discrimination in regards to the ecology of Lake Tuscawilla and Alachua Conservation Trust,, and she refuses to even take the time to acknowledge my existence. My experience in Alachua County and with ACT and Anna Prizzia has been incredible hypocrisy. I invite Anna to practice what she preaches and not be yet another politician full,of hot air and empty promises.

Exactly 1 year ago today my dear student Sergio Domingo Diego, 14 years old, was kidnapped in his hometown. His uncle told the authorities that he went out to the store and when he came back Sergio was gone. He was missing for 3 to 4 days until his body was finally located in the Alapaha River in Jennings, FL along with another young man's body. Authorities claimed that they had 2 migrant suspects who had already fled. Unfortunately with these homicides involving undocumented non - citizens it is difficult to 100% determine who exactly murdered Sergio and the other young man. But clearly he knew the killer (s) since he was comfortable enough to get lured and taken to the secluded spot where they ultimately executed him. The killer(s) were never captured and the authorities gave up on their investigation. The point of this post is to simultaneously honor and bring awareness on this day. I had the privilege of teaching Sergio, 5 days a week for an entire year during my brief teaching career. Sergio was a smart, bright, respectful, hard - working, funny, kind and sweet innocent CHILD. He had an entire future to look forward to but was sadly robbed of that opportunity. If you have any children or young friends always keep them informed and protected because these sorts of things can happen anywhere, anytime. Law enforcement failed you, the community failed you, justice was never served. Rest in peace Sergio (2005 - 2020)

@@WWALSwatershed it wasn't. They only declared that because it means they wouldn't have had to spend money on an investigation. Which is disturbing. That means the killers could still be there.

Hello, Went kayaking on the Withlacoochee river 5/28/21. Put in at Colin Kelly Highway at bridge Fla/ Ga line. and went to public boat ramp located 5 miles from Blue Springs. Trip took 8 hours and the river super low. Last time down river for kayaking was 32 years ago for me. Glad to see paper mill discharge lines that were in the middle of river are gone. They have nice PCA park near there now.
