I have a hard-on for the bass. To be clear..... the bass not the bass player.!

Your clarification is appreciated. The Bassist (it’s a cheap old 1950s German plywood bass…the European equivalent of a Kay Bass…which I stripped the varnish off sometime in the last millenium!)

A really nice interpretation. The guitarist looks like (and plays like) a young Larry Coryell.

Thank you! We think so too: Britten was such a great innovator and experimenter…also you’re in agreement with Sir Derek Jacobi (who is sat there on the left hand side of the stage and toured with us on this project back in 2014)

This is an awesome interpretation! Britten would have approved!

not sure why you thought it was okay to make something so beautiful to listen to and then make it under 2 minutes long. give us the full cover!!

Thanks! We’d love to do the whole song for you (& hopefully THOUSANDS more) and we have a couple of London shows coming up…please drop us a line at [email protected] for more info 😊

Cheers, Gerry! I'm a London-Irish/Scottish mongrol, myself...check out a Celtic Fusion band I was in around 1999 called Penradin, and our album Lunasadh...it's online somewhere. A few of the tracks, like our version of The Monaghan Jig, have been played on Irish radio...enough Royalties for about a pint of Guinnes every couple of years 🤣

Listen here Tracks 1-3, 5-8, 10-12 & 30-33 are Penradin & have been re-released unbranded by ZONE music: www.zonemusic.co.uk/album/zone-519/zone-519-celtic-folk

So weird to see people perform this song in modern times. It should be totally unacceptable and is honestly y disgusting to listen to as someone with Caribbean roots.

Colonial encroacher making fun of the people they were corrupting. If they had any decency, they would choose some other calypso music to imitate.
@JonnyGeeDoubleBass Жыл бұрын
You have misunderstood & I think you will approve of the actual facts & meaning behind the song: this song was written by Trinidadian musician Lord Invader, using his own island's Calypso rhythms, and with lyrics intended as a protest against American influence on his native island's values and society. If you care to learn more, you can read about it here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rum_and_Coca-Cola
@chavdarnaidenov2661 Жыл бұрын
The facts are exactly what I had in mind. US producers stole the song that lamented the lamented the effects of the foreign military occupation and reworded it, to make it into a jeer, a mockery of the occupied.
