These “Helpful Hints” were an extremely useful supplement to the perfectly written instructions during my assembly of this Gazebo from 8/14 - 16/2024. Thank you, Yardistry. Regarding the alignment (or misalignment) of the final roof panel, I learned that ensuring the posts are square is a vital step!!! I was out of square one inch, and that prevented the roof panels from aligning. Once I “squared” the posts, the roof panels slid into place perfectly.

Dont install panels in the wind. Its like a sail boat...great advice. If you dont have help, brace the first panel with a long 2x4, about 12 feet. Then, what i did, install two 2x4s from one end to the other on top. Now lift your panels on these cross beams. From there one person can lift while other installs bolts. Im 60 years old and my wife is a 105 pound 62 year old. I did all of the work and she helped with panels. If we can do it anyone can. BTW we had 2 decent step ladders.

It would be helpful to explain the optimal positioning of the roof with the beams. Is there supposed to be a gap between the beam and the outside portion of the roof? In other words, what should the distance be between the outside surface of the beam and the outside surface of the facia? What should the height be between the floor and the inside top of the roof? The instructions do not address this.

everything is well explained, just one thing that I struggled with is with the beams, on the instructions it says to put a 1914 beam( for the longest part) but it should be a 1913. hopefully this helps. as I struggled quite a bit. since the long truss assembly would not fit. with a 1914 beam.

@@Devinohm1992 I am running into complications. I have taken apart and reassembled steps 3-5 about twice now. It's a lot of tedious work!
@EarthBard4 ай бұрын
The instructions were tedious but if you followed them exactly everything kinda worked out, but… The cedar framing for the roof had many bowed pieces, which caused problems with the metal roof alignment if the bowing was on the outside - which it did! The biggest problem is they make it look so easy to get the roof sections on top of the trusses - it is VERY hard to get them over the posts and into position -> you really need 6 people and 4 ladders to do this safely. If I had to do it all over again, I would not get this gazebo unless you had 6 people available. Likewise, it just seems like the roofing assembly could have been easier and better. Most of all - it seems like the whole structure was engineered to fit in the Costco sized boxes. If they had made the roofing support wood longer and the roofing sheets larger, the roof could have been assembled onto the trusses in 1/4 time rather than they way it is shown.

Just put this together this weekend. Quite a pain. I've been in the trades for years and can build or fix just about anything and I will tell you that the lack of QC in their wood and cuts made this a real pain. The long rafter boards were so warped it was impossible to get any of the edges of the metal roof panels to be flush on the sides. I had several rafters that looked like a stretched out "S". I wish I could attach pictures to this. Also the instructions state to leave a 1" overhang off the bottom and have the top be flush. Good luck with that. The wood frame is simply too long, or the metal roof panel is too short to do that. Has nothing to do with squaring the panel either. With 1" of metal hanging over the bottom there was about 3/8" if exposed wood on the top fascia. There's just no way around it, you would have to either shorten the rafter boards or rip a little off the fascia boards, period. The instructions leave a lot to be desired, and why they decided to leave the part number out of each step is beyond me. You'll have to reference the parts list at least 50 times as you go through the steps to figure out which bag to use for each step. The manufacturer could fix this in about 30 minutes and update their instructions and save lots of people lots of time. So frustrating. The video helped but was still lacking in clarity on some things. Overall I like the structure but better quality wood and better quality control on lumber and better accuracy on cuts so things actually fit like the video says they should would be wonderful.
@UW853 ай бұрын
Yup exactly. This video was helpful for a few things & I appreciate it but I'll NEVER buy another one. The manual left so much to be desired as well -- been a science/shop teacher for 38 years and I'd give it a solid C-. Give me 2 days of pay and I'd have it so anyone could follow it and not have to guess if you're doing it correctly. Get it wrong, then have to fix it. Like you, I'm very experienced & could make the corrections on the fly but overall I found this project to be one of the of the most frustrating I've ever done.

If I can make any suggestions to this. I just put this togeather with my son over the weekend. It took two people 15 hours total to put this togeather so about 30 man hours. This is a major structure and will require 2 people at MIN and an extra thrid person to help when putting the steel frame up for 10 minutes to jsut hold a few things and when putting the roofing panels up for 10 minutes. You can do it with 2 people like we did but it was sketchy at points and we are both strong and fit people that can lift a fair amount of weight! To the manufacturer, you put all these nice part numbers on all the bags for hardware then you didnt use them in the instructions. It would be really nice to use these part nubmers for the hardware "use a 5/16 x1/4 Big Washer (311)" adding the 311 really helps so that you know you are using the right ones. You did a great job to make sure nothing was called the same thing but the part nubmers make it fool proof :) Tip for people is instead of going back and forth remove the inventory page and tape it to your work table for refrence to look up the part nubmer! 1. Don't lay your wood in the sun, cover it with a tarp even though it's cedar and meant to be outside if the wood is still a bit wet it can warp very easily as it dries. 2. The 3 little tubes of sealant are just not enugh and are a pain to use. Spend $5 and get a tube of clear silicone from the local hardware store. It's easier to apply it an there is no need to be so worried about running out with those 3 small tubes that are really hard to apply with. Now Dont go overboard so that it squezes out everywhere but you also dont ahve to be so strigent! I also put a small dab of clear silicone on each screw hole to ensure it does not leak even a little. It's a little overboard i know but its $5 woth of silicone and if you have a helper hit all the holes as you screw it's really no time at all! 3. Get a rattle can of black rustolium matt black paint and spray ANY scratches you see in the metal. Just hit it once or twice to stop it from rusting! 4. When creating your roofing frame members (putting the long and skinny piece togeather) you dont ahve to do it on a level surface if you have a nice long straight edge (I had an 8 foot level) you jsut lay the boards on their side and put the 2 bolts in and throw the level across the top of it to ensure its flush and level as possible. Makes it easier to do this on a non level surface then trying to fins a perfectly level surface. 5. MAKE SURE any outside board in your roofing frame has a t nut on the OUTSIDE of it. The instructions show it but it does not show it well. The reason is all the outside edges will have trim put on them so they have to be flat and any of the inside edges will be butted up against another roofing panel so it has to be flat. Make sure the otside of each roof panel does NOT have a nut or bolt sticking out. You do not want to find this error out when installing the trim!!! 6. Your 3 roofing pannels, after building the framing put your 5 strapping pieces into it and put two screws in the middle of each board first. This allows your frame to still be adjusted for square. Once you are square put 2 screws in each corner and check again. Then you can do the rest of the edge screws, check for square again and then fill in the rest and again check for square. We found that if you put it in square then add your straping piece it can easily get thrown out of square! There is no limit to how many times you can make sure it is square. Alos it does not have to be perfect 1/8"-1/4" over 155 inches (12 feet) is fine but try to get it as close as possible but don't drive yourself nuts tryping to make it perfect! If its out of square, on th elong measurement corners have someone hold the corner and just give it a little kick and measure again! 7. If you actually know which way your weather is coming from based on where you're going to put this, you can overlap the sheets the other way to help prevent weather from coming in. It takes a few seconds to just put panel A on then panel B. then panel a then panel B. But basically you're doing the same thing. the overlaps are just going the other way. 8. Also the roofing framing will not always be true prefect rectangles some will bow out.. so try your best to center them. Also when putting on the roof clips the instructions are not very clear how they work. Might be nice to update how these work better. This vidoe exaplined it very nicely. The clips are universal but to be universal to either side you ahve to install them the opposite way on the right side VS the left side which was confusing! 9. For the roofing clips and all the plastic the gets caught in the pinch of the folded metal, There is no need to pull it out or make it perfect, just leave it as it wont be visable once you slide a cap over it! 10 After all the roofing clips are installed take one of the roofing caps and just run it up your roofing panel clip to make sure none of the roofing screws are sticking up too far and will prevent it from sliding up. If you find this out when it is installed on the roof it will be very difficult to get on the roof to screw in any screws so that the cap can slide up unubstructed! Ask em how i know, we had one screw that was sticking up just a little too far :) 11. When sliding the roofing caps that finishes the seam between the roofing panels the leading edge of that little section that is used to join the two roofing caps togeather can get stuck on the over hang where the roofing shsets overlap. I found a light tap with a hammer on the very end of the roofing cap helped it to get over this little lip. 12. There are going to be holes that you have a hole in the top panel but not the bottom panel. These are self taping roofing screws just press down and it will tap the bottom panel! 13. When we installed our pannels we installed the left one first and insted of putting it in its final resting place we set it down with the post in the second joist bay, then we installed the right one the same way then we installed the middle panel. This made it a lot easier to get all 3 pannels up there with no issues. You milage may vary but we found this easier to do small movements with all 3 pannels up there then trying to get each one prefectly into place and the last one was difficult to put in place! 14. Your last panel will be a tight fit. If you are having issues the video shows it a bit but really does nto explain it. push up both roofing panels at the same time and flush them up then let them sit back down again. It will wedge the roofing panels but it will fit. 15. After you put the bolts in to join all the roofing panels togeather do not tighten them yet leave them all loose and then go back after and tighten them all down. 16.Before you screw your roofing panels togeather you need to flush up your panels. If one is higher then the other then put a screw in the lower one and leave the head of the screw sticking up and use a claw hammer to bring the two surfaces level and then drive in a screw. This will make sure all your roofing panels are flush to each other! Example of the procedure (kzbin.infowZ6QWaCY6cY) Very easy to do and I know no one wants to put a hole in their nice new building but it's worth it.. Also make sure you dont pull too hard and mar up your nice new soft wood, You can put a chunk of wood under it to help distribute the force to not mar the wood! 17.. By design this Gazebo is meant to have the tall part of the roof be the front and the lower part of the roof is the back but I find it works both ways. We installed ours backwords because we wanted the water runoff to be away from the house! 18.. When installing the facia metal DO NOT over tighten the screws and make sure they go in flat, if you are using a power drill set it to the lowest clutch setting as you can dent this metal so quickly by over tightening. 19. Do not use an impact driver to install the facia screws use a normal drill driver. An impact as it hammers can cause the bit to cam out (jump out) of the screw head and you will dent that flashing really bad with your drill bit!

Some pieces would just not line up perfectly do to warping. We ran an underground conduit under the gravel packed pad beforehand for lighting etc. Will add an exhaust fan and/or misting fan later. We also used 4x4 treated lumber for shed to sit on top of, and will fill in with more gravel and pavers. Nice shed for the money. Check the price at your local Costco first, as it may be on sale!
