I personally think that the "tonewood is a myth" thing got started because of how it became more and more commonplace to get potted (or OVER potted) pickups. Like, originally the majority were UNpotted, but over time, it that turned on its head, to the point where eventually the majority were potted. The fact that the type of wood a guitar is made of can alter it's tone, is a reality. However, if the combination of all the components you build the guitar results in a guitar that you can whack the body of the guitar with a hammer, and you don't hear that through the speakers at all, then it's unlikely *THAT* guitar is going to sound any different whether you made the body out of balsa wood, or brick. However, if the combination of components results in a guitar that you can hear the brushing of your shirt against the back, coming through the speakers, then the material of *every* part of the guitar is likely to affect how it sounds (for better or worse). It's a combination of variables.

I think you’re right, the reaper definitely wins overall, does need some eq. Maybe after the tone knobs are adjusted it would be fantastic. I do enjoy the stock speaker as well. If they could be run together it would a great blend. Amp can do 4 ohm, so maybe I could find a way to fit both. 😂

Well, this is absolutely wonderful. Although I live in the same town(Southold/Greenport, Long Island) that Hugh Prestwood lived for many years, I had never seen him on You Tube before, although in concert many years ago. What great songs he wrote, and he even answered one of my letters. I was sad when he moved away, and even more so when he passed away. And, of course I've loved the music of Cheryl Wheeler and Kathy Mattea for many years now. What a time it was when country and folk blended so seamlessly!. Thanks for keeping this music alive!

Been a huge fan of Vaughn's pickups, the Tele pickups he made for me really define the guitar they are in, just amazing.

I bought a Marshall JCM2000 TSL602 2x12 Combo in 2002 that I loved and was the best amp i ever owned. I traded that amp in for a B-52 AT100 half stack, outright, because i was about to start playing some shows with my band and I thought that the 60w 2x12 combo wouldnt be enough. Keep in mind that this was early 2000's and I didn't know what i was doing. ANYWAY, the B-52 turned out to be kindof a beast. It did everything i needed it to do and it turned out to be way more than i needed for a small show. I regret trading in that beautiful Marshall, but I don't regret what the AT100 was able to give me at the price point it did. Its a diamond in the rough that i'm glad to have owned. Its loud af, but has crystal clear tone played clean with fx pedals. If anyone is looking for a budget halfstack, (and in 2025, you don't need a half stack for anything), Its going to surprise you. Its not top tier by any means. Its just solid and exceeds expectations.

One of the best amps I ever owned had 1 Volume & 1 Tone control and was a former USO Supro 6420 Amp, although I have a Bugera V55hd that can make some pretty respectable tones

Would there be a way to mod the distortion circuit so it isn't so loud and I can leave the volume knob alone? I'm a lead singer/ guitar player in a rock'n roll band and I don't have the time to roll off the volume before hitting my lead tone, if you get me.

I have the 1st generation V55hd and run it into a Marshall 4x12 and when its split it does 22watts so its something you can use at home or on stage and welcomed hearing WGS Blackhawk speakers

I want to put some Mojotone 59 clones in my Custom 24 SE, will I have to change out the pot for the coil split or can I leave it and split the new pickups. I guess my question is can you coil split and Humbucker pickup ?

Vaughn I am about to create some Hopefully Magical Wiring to inspire and get most out of your pickups using a KingTone Switch, they have a SRV & Classic set that change resistance in circuit and give you different tonal ranges, it also allows for a Bypass and Treble bleed that has up to 16 settings. I plan on using this with the Historic 64 STRAT SET in Strat and with Velvet Tele set in a 96 50th Anniv Telecaster. Once can complete all wiring, troubleshoot circuits and dial in Treble bleed we will try to generate some sound samples so others can see the Wonders created in Your Shop

So....how else can i approximately match output of 3 different pickups if resistance has nothing to do with it? I am desperately trying to match H-S-P90 all dual coil. my humbucker is 13 ohms parallel, my singlecoil 9 ohms parallel, my p-90 is 32 ohms parallel. So.......i am considering running my P-90 in series to get the resistance down, so that has nothing to do with balancing (the best i can) the output? Completely confused by lots of counterintuitive information here on YT😳. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.🙏tks, tim

Can i ask what your back ground in electronics is. Resistance can give you an idea of if a pickup is what we call high output or low out just as inductance can also tell us things. Using your theory inductance is useless also and you ust proved that you measured the inductance and got reading (X) then you removed a couple magnetic poles and got reading (Y) however putting that pickup back in with 3 magnets missing the pickup wont work like it should. What would be better if you dont want to trust the pickup manufacture would be to buy a book on electronics and actually learning the theory behind everything you take into acount. Because can you tell me what measuring the inductance means as far as the tone and output of the pickup. Of you can you sure didnt say it here however if a pickup is in working order and it reads 8k resistance and then you grab a second pickup and it reads 15k resistance you do know that one will be more output than the other and one will be darker than the other in tetms of treble response. Will the resistance tell you if your going to like the tone of the pickup? No but it will give you an idea if the pickup is what the guitar world refears to as high output or low out. If you can explain how inductance relates to the sound of the puckup please do, the only thing you just proved was inductance changes as you remove parts of the pickup and resistance doesnt. That doesnt help at all when trying to figure out if you might be in the ballpark of what you like from a pickup.
