It's interesting. I am trying to play Fernando Sor Studies with a thumb pick. I'm a total beginner to thumb picks by the way.

I experiencing numbness mostly in the index middle and ring fingers when playing and sometimes pain on the pads of these fingers making it difficult to play. Went to an orthopedic doctor who has wants a neurologist to assess if there’s any nerve damage. I get what you say take a break but how long. I have put so much hard work into getting back to playing after so many years off. Family, kids life. I don’t want to loose what I’ve gained in fluidnesa and playing ability and memorization of songs and techniques. Caught btw a rock and a hard place

PLease check with the neurologist. I cannot give medical advice! YOu may also want to check a physiotherapist? Could be some pinch / blockage in the shoulder or neck perhaps? Also - please see a good classical guitar teacher so someoner can asses your technique in person. Good luck with this and please keep me posted!

You are wrong on few things. 1st, it does have octave and over tone effects. Octaves gives you -1 and -2 octaves. Overtones gives you -1 and +1. And if you are not happy with the octave you can use the pitch shifter. 2nd, you can set it up so you can turn on/off individual effects in the same patch. In your case you have 3 effects (octave, tera, reverb) so it would work perfectly with the 3 pedals. Click "MEMORY EDIT" Go to CT1 Set FUNCTION to FX1 (or FX2) MODE on TOGGLE Set FX1/2 to OCTAVE Scroll all the way to the end to UP Set FUNCTION to DELAY (pick Tera Echo on the delay setting) Set MODE to TOGGLE Go to DWN Set FUNCTION to REVERB 3rd, to control knobs in the spot all you have to do is long press the button of the effect you want and it shows you the knob controls. It's a bit inconvenient but it works. There you have it.

@@rayana4250 Hmm, wow I had not looked closely enough. I now have an ME-80 because I like turning real knobs, and I assume everything is also on the GT-1 just trickier to get to because of the menus. Thanks for correcting me.

Are you accenting then with your thumb on one and three versus two and four as you play your pattern? I think that's what I understand you saying.

My problem is that I easily forget what my root chord/note is, so it's a bit more difficult for me to determine what the intervals are 😥 I'm like, "wait, is this a fourth away from the root, or a fifth? What did the root sound like again?" I'm not sure how common this problem is. But I guess that's more of an ear training thing.

I agree with you totally , it depends who you are or want to be with your guitar. I play mostly with thumb picks , i sometimes wish i could get rid of them, totally… depending on the song , the context , the sound i want to achieve , the guitar i am playing … you mentioned Joe Pass as an example playing bare fingers…. or other more Jazz oriented Guitar Players, like Martin Taylor, or for example the Brazilian Guitar music, amazing stuff like Yamandu Costa. I love also the sound, groove you get from your guitar… but on the other hand i also love the Travis style , Merle himself, the Pennington’s, son and father, Thom Bresh , the way they get this pronounced Rhythm / Melody separation. Then amazing stuff TE does with his Thumb, Blue Moon etc…… and also, for many not that known, if you watch the great Bachata guitar players , how they use the Thumb pick and their fingers for lead, they play with the Thumb pick incredibly rhythmic leads, which i don’t think you could achieve with the bare thumb…. and last but not least , the great Scotty Anderson , who does mind boggling things with the Thumb pick, even double stops at incredible speed … so ideally for me at least i would love to be able to versatile with and without …. which means for me today , yep get rid of the to strong Thumb Pick dependency. Thanks for the great video.

Doesn't the intro to Southern Nights use this rhythm as well as the rest of the song?

A friend of mine owns a music store, is a 75 year old classical guitar player who met Chet Atkins at a Nam show years ago. He says Chet told him if he could do it over he never would've started with a thumb pick, just thumb. So I through away the thumb pick as I was just starting to finger pick. A pick now feels very straight to me.

Taylor all the way!!! Even through pickup … i really don’t know why all the Fingerstyler’s are raving about the Maton that much. For me it really doesn’t that great at all … yeah ok TE , but you need the whole deal , the Udo amp etc etc and you sound like TE …
@adamraffertyАй бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Taylor definitely has an amazing, versatile tone, and it’s all about what feels and sounds right to each player. The Maton love probably comes from the way it pairs with specific setups. At the end of the day, it’s all about finding the guitar that connects with you! 🎸😊
@ChristophHenriciАй бұрын
Exactly, like you point out … probably the Maton is terrific in an amplified context for a larger audience… targeted for a small elite group for players … but not that much for the sofa or even a small venue context …. and sure your right in the end it is a matter personal preferences … what is for sure : terrific playing and a great illuminating comparison, great thanks

I struggle tapping with my toes so much. It feels unnatural and my calve starts to cramp. I'm a heel person..or I'll have my entire foot jumping along with the beat. 😂
@adamraffertyАй бұрын
Haha, I feel you! Toe-tapping can definitely take some getting used to, especially if you're more of a heel or "full-foot groover." Honestly, as long as you're feeling the beat and staying in rhythm, you’re doing it right-foot cramps and all! 😂 Keep the groove alive, however it works for you! 🎸🎶👣
