Not sure if it'll effect full throttle. But will definitely effect how engine runs. Symptoms too look for: -engine stumbling or hesitating. -poor fuel milage. -no spark condition. -engine will crank but not start.

The original ground going to the computer bracket where did it run to just somewhere inside the cab or did it run back to the negative terminal on the battery battery? Just noticed mines missing a ground. Where u Said there was an original ground on the Phillips screw on the PCM bracket
@almagam20992 ай бұрын
Yeah. Ran it inside the cab. One end of ground to pcm bracket. And the other end of ground too body in cab. There should be a mounting point on the floor, directly too the right of the computer for the ground. But really, you can mount it anywhere inside the cab. There are several mounting points on the floor near the computer.

Thanks for the video.. Question.. The plug that plugs in the alternator has two wires, one white which is power, the othe smaller wire is yellow with a stripe. It then pig tails out a few inches from the alternator. But, it's just hanging there? The alternator and the battery are brand new, but the alternator isnt charging the battery. Im sure this yellow pigtail wire has something to do with it. I just don't know where it goes. Any help would be appreciated!
@almagam20992 ай бұрын
That yellow wire connect too a green connector called a diode. It piggybacks onto "if you look at video at startup" the grey harness connector that's directly underneath the power steering reservoir, bracket! The other end of that grey connector has "I think two thicker gauged White Wires with a Blue strip running down them. At least one of those White Wires with Blue strip feeds directly towards the fusebox. That Yellow wire " i think" is what let's alternator charge the battery.

The gauges and pod are from Glowshift . I've got a handful more of their gauges but haven't installed them yet. That I know of, they don't make pods for the d21. I had too trim a lot of the pod. I have an issue, and I wish I could send you pictures. In my 97 D21, there is a black and green fussible link that comes right off the positive terminal on the battery. They are cut shortly after their connection to the positive terminal and I am having trouble finding where it leads so that I can fix it. I also don't even know if I need them as I bought the truck and it is working perfectly fine.
@almagam20993 ай бұрын
Yeah. That's the hard part. Finding where the links lead. The newer, 90's d21's have more accessories than my base model ever would. That link could lead to something the truck doesn't need too run or it could lead too something a little more necessary.

@almagam20993 ай бұрын
Sorry. I know absolutely zero about diesel engines. But if the electrical aspect "harness design" is anything like gas engine d21's...I'll try and help. -use multimeter too check battery is good or is at 12 volts. If battery us good but the truck still has no power. -if your truck has them, check fusible links for power. If they don't show 12 volts...they're likely fried. All of mine fried at the same time. I just didn't know it. Took weeks of research and only being able too work on the truck on weekends. I finally learned about the fusible links. Once I installed new ones. Truck instantly had power too all components. If you replace the links but still have no power. Then the harness for each link might be the culprit. Large area's of harness on my d21 were in horrible condition. Was able too repair some area's. Other's I had too replace the wiring or connectors.

@@almagam2099 From what I can tell, the wiring is close to the same with the exception of the second battery. I can't find the fuseable links required so I am thinking I may have to Frakenstein in a new one at this point. But yes, something sparked and the power died like a fuse blew. Now that I am learning more it makes total sense. 3 of mine are absolutely corroded, the 4th one was only throwing 7v. Thank you!
