Some people hate FF and FG for what they are but at least they've always stood up for what they believed in and done what they set out to do, even if it's completely fucked over 99% of the country. Labour can't say the same, they betrayed the working and middle class and made a mockery of their origins. Jim Larkin would be fuckin sick at the sight of that party now.

"When the facts change... I change my mind" John Maynard Keynes. Rabbitte's points are thoroughly reasonable and yes,for the left as well there is reasonable debate on universal child benefits. From the postings here one might conclude Labour won by a landslide; in fact,it's a junior partner and received less than 20% of the vote. It's the quality of arguements here that explains why the UKiP is expected to do a star performance in the UK elections and we know what a fine alternative the UKiP represents. Where are the parties in Ireland that WILL be able to do things very much different if elected to office?

So, this has aged like a fine milk. Labour shied away from the hard business of building a proper critical left mass from its 2011 numbers, electing instead to give its grey generation a cushy pension. And all it cost them was their vote, their historic constituencies, their credibility, and generations of goodwill.

I used to strongly believe that a market independent media broadcaster was almost a necessity to guarantee unbiased information. I suppose in a perverted way it's thanks to the reporting of RTE that I am now informed that RTE is an utter waste of time, money and talent (there has to be *some* in there somewhere). Now we just need to wait for the deaths of all the people who are conditioned to gaze blankly upwards when they hear the angelus.

You hate the Labour party and socialism? That's fine, I don't agree with it but please have enough intelligence to realise that the Labour party and Socialism aren't the same thing. The current Labour leadership are about as socialist as FF and FG, i.e. not at all.

we need to exit the eurozone while we still have an economy of any sort in ireland. this clip shows that government politicians will forever be able to blame "the european economy loosing momentum" or whatever way they wish to phrase it for them being unable to fulfill election promises which nobody believes at this stage. as a matter of fact people are now coming t the conclusion that representative democracy itself is being take away from them with our country being run by quangos and banks.

FRESH AIR?Maybe they should get a sleeping bag and sleep rough,as they probably wont be able to make ends meet between food and rent..GREAT IDEA!! There are those on weflare,as it is who are a PENNY away from being homeless, cutting welfare will mean more ppl sleeping rough, and hostels?Hostels are full to the brim up and down the country as it stands..I used to work in one,and there was huge demand for beds, that lots went & slept rough

Of countess they have influence you knob end, i know that that's why I voted for them. But ask yourself why did so many Irish vote for Fine Gael? It's said to be the first time in Europe since before world war two, when a right wing party (FF) was replaced by an even further right wing party (FG). I wanted labour to temper what FG would get up to. And there's no way I'd vote SF... too many murdering terrorists in their shadows. Back to the points, he talked about intentions.. and they didn't fa

Would ye all go fuck yourselves. He told the truth, people set out their good intentions. They intended to do one thing, and they comprised a bit on it (by 8.5%). Only 1 in 5 of us at the last election voted for Labour. 2 in 5 of us voted for Fine Gael. So don't expect to see a minority party's policies being implemented in full when between the 5 of Us we voted them into a position of comprise.

Since taking office as Minister in 2011, Rabbitte has been indistinguishable from an FF or FG minister and has been arrogant, which he was in the lead up to the last election. We could all post comments about everything all day. We need to take peaceful, coordinated and effective action.

I repeatedly challenged Labour & FG election candidates about their blatant denials that (in opposition) they had repeatedly called for lower taxes & higher public spending after each budget during the 'Celtic Tiger' period. Rabbitte himself constantly denied this had happened, despite it being broadcast on TV & radio, printed in newspapers and presumably on Dail records. What did anyone expect and why did anyone vote for people with that track record of dishonesty?
