The glider parked on the side of the runway was me! Had to landout as my avionics failed on my way home to Tibenham from Silverstone which was my out and return task. Sutton Meadows is a really nice airfield and the same day I got to fly tandem! Thanks for all your hospitality.

You are changing hands too high and allowing the wing to slow down, which is very dangerous, especially in wind. Try standing with your hands on the control bar and changing just one hand, keeping the other underneath holding the nose so the wing doesn't lose speed. You will act more safely.

I suggest you keep one hand on the control bar to maintain acceleration when landing on days with strong winds. You entered the speed limit. And taking on strong turbulence, without having speed, it will be difficult to bring the wing to the landing strip safely.

ls this wing okay for a beginner/novice to own, or is it only intended for highly experienced pilots to fly?
@windninja
@windninja 10 ай бұрын
This is not a beginner's wing but you don't have to be "highly" experienced. Get some flex wing hours in until you are confident and competent then talk with your instructor/coaches about considering a transition to a rigid wing.

Those looks awsome! What is the real wolds main difference between the VQ and the VR? Handeling ,landing and performance? Flew hangliders during the 90`s. Then gliders. Havent flown anything for some years. But missing flying hg very much. Atos seems to fit the bill for xc.

Repositioning your hands up the down tubes while pulled in destabilizes your approach. You can control speed better with your hands down on the tubes or on the base bar and only need your hands high up when you are ready to flare. Maybe switch hand positions when the glider goes trim shortly before the flare.
@skyjockbill
@skyjockbill 4 ай бұрын
Do you fly hang gliders? If so, in the UK? Reason I ask - in the UK we are all trained to get our hands on the uprights early. Waiting until just before you flare is too late and risks a botched transition from base bar to uprights.. Where did you learn the technique you advocate?

Glad you liked it! The 360 is new to me an I'm still trying things out. For this vid I did some initial editing in the the insta software then uploaded into "imovie" to cut and trim

Cropping a 360 degree image causes distortion compared to the actual image. I'm always worried about how much distortion can be tolerated in 2D.
