videos are terrible and inaccurate. They are a game breed, not "excellent layers." There's chickens on the video that aren't even Sumatras. Their skin color isn't yellow. Only the bottoms of their feet. Their heads/combs shouldn't be bright red. the standard says Mulberry colored.

Idk about the roosters being nice especially with children like the video states. Mine is very aggressive. But he is a very beautiful bird with his long tail that drags on the ground. I read they were used in the 1800's as a fighting bird for entertainment. Maybe that's where the aggression comes from.

thanx for your comment and may be his aggression comes from there

I have two Sumatra hens. One of them went broody and just hatched a sweet little chick on Mother’s Day 2024. I like them!

How many grams of eggs do you use for hatching?
@sweet_hens4 ай бұрын
Hi, Serama egg weight isn't a good measure for hatching. They're tiny, around 20-24 grams. Fertility is more important - healthy hens and good handling are key. Consider using a broody hen of any breed for hatching. Candle eggs before incubation to check fertility. Maintain proper temperature, humidity and turning for successful incubation. Focus on bird health and good practices over egg weight.

They could probably survive in the wild
@sweet_hens5 ай бұрын
Domestic chickens are unlikely to survive in the wild due to lack of predator awareness, foraging skills, and proper shelter. However, feral chickens with adaptations can make it on their own.
@JohnSmith-c6u7v5 ай бұрын
@@sweet_hens them are naturally wild chickens them aren't farm chickens I don't know if your aware them are large game chickens that fight to the death and them are pretty much feral chickens
@sweet_hens5 ай бұрын
@@JohnSmith-c6u7v thanks for you comment as I know big fighting chickens are bred gamefowl, not feral. Feral chickens are just escaped farm chickens, not fighters.
@JohnSmith-c6u7v5 ай бұрын
@@sweet_hens if they escaped they would have a better chance at surviving against predators then farm chickens

One of the smallest rooster but very territorial too.
@sweet_hens6 ай бұрын
Serama roosters, like most roosters, can be territorial due to their instinct to protect their flock. While generally less aggressive, keeping multiple roosters or having a small flock can increase territorial behavior.
